Hello EYB friends,

It turns out I have 8 Jamie Oliver books on my bookshelf and I don't recall ever cooking from one!

Not sure if you're familiar w the website "Chowhound" but currently nominations are underway for what they call "The Cookbook Of The Month" or COTM.  This time around, it looks like Jamie Oliver Month is being favoured which means that we'd be cooking from Jamie's books and, sharing experiences, reviews and photos during the month of March.  

So, this got me thinking that I should post something here in case any of my cookbook loving friends had any interest in voting and, participating.  Any reviews posted there could also be posted here and, help build our recipe ratings and comments.

My thinking is that if we also post our reviews on Chowhound and and, chat up EYB in the process by sharing how EYB helps us pick recipes etc and this might encourage folks on Chowhound to sign up fore EYB and, share their experiences, reviews etc.  

As we've discussed in previous posts, it would be wonderful to run a similar cookbook of the month here so this might be a great way to draw new members and, potential participants.

I've been participating in the COTM's now for the past 5 months and its a fun way to try out books that might otherwise go undervalued on my bookshelf.

Thanks Sue for all the help you provide spreading the word about EYB. Word of mouth is so important on the web - it's so enormous and trying to get ourselves known is a struggle so everything members do to help publicize EYB is really appreciated.

On Jamie Oliver, I have 10 of his books and I do cook from them quite a bit.  I think you will be pleasantly surprised if we end up cooking from his books in March.

We would love it if all the COTM members added their reviews from CH to the EYB reviews - the more we can build up that side of the site the better.

Of course any recommendation is dependent on what type of cooking you like to do.  Personally I like Cook with Jamie, Jamie at Home and Jamie's Dinners - they are more family oriented which is the bulk of my cooking.  His new one Jamie's 30 Minute Meals is great but it's only been published in the UK so far (it was the fastest selling non-fiction book EVER in the UK).  Though The Book Depository (EYB's bookseller affiliate) does do free international shipping so if you don't mind British measurements and ingredient names that is a possibility.

His early Naked Chef books have some great recipes though you may find his cheeky chappy tone grating.  Someone on Chowhound said he looks like a teenager in those books though he was early to mid 20s.  I did a list on Chowhound which I'll copy here:

I just indexed "Jamie does..." and thought his take on Moroccan and Greek looked especially tempting. Will certainly be trying a few of those. Several recipes from "The Naked chef" are favourites of mine too. 

Jamie's 30-minute meals was translated to Dutch, so it's not just in the UK. And I would suppose that means it has been translated to other languages too. I don't own it though.

I do own four other books of his, of which the Naked Chef is definitely my favorite, although I like Happy Days with the Naked Chef as well. I prefer his "family oriented" cooking to his more "culinary" cooking - it just seems to be more his thing.

Which recipes are your favorite out of the Naked Chef series?

Couldn't resist the new Jamie Oliver cookbook, Save With Jamie, on sale at my local supermarket today.  And having had a quick look through it, there are lots of recipes I'm looking forward to trying out - although Zombie Brain may be a step too far!
