Hi everyone

I thought I had a ot of cookbooks till I came on here :) Only about 100! I listed most of them a couple of days ago and I've already cooked a recipe I'd never have thought of as a result (parsnip cake from Jane Grigson's English Food). I live in France and blog at  La Recette du Jour.

Hi, I'm Ros and I'm a complete newbie. I've just signed up and am finding my way around. I don't have many cookbooks (compared to most people here) but my collection has been growing exponentially in the last year. I blog at http://themorethanoccasionalbaker.blogspot.com/ and am now on twitter @bakingaddict. Hope to get to know some of you and your cookbooks!

Whats your 10 favourite cookbooks in your collection?

Welcome baking addict - you will find you are among like-minded cookbook fanatics here.  And it's not the quantity that counts, just that you love your cookbooks.  I suggest that you start a new topic about favorite cookbooks as we don't really want this introduction thread to get off-topic. You start a new topic by clicking the Forum it would fit best into, in this case Book Recommendations, and then click New Topic at top right.

And delayed welcome to veronicafrance - thank you for starting to member index your books already!  Welcome to all the many other new members in the last couple of months - only a tiny percentage of new members have posted here, there are many more lurking!

Hi:

I live in Rochester, NY and like trying new recipes.  I'm currently trying different yeast doughs and am somewhat pleased with the results.  I like making breads and also dinner rolls of any variety.

I also enjoy trying different and new recipes.

Hope to get to the point where I have all of my recipes in one place and this just might be that place.

Hello everyone!

I am new to this game (blogs, and posting, etc) but I am ready for an adventure. :)

Over the years I have always adored cookbooks...I remember as a little girl perusing the hundreds of cookbooks my grandma owned as well as cutting out recipes from magazines. While I personally do not own hundreds of cookbooks myself, or anywhere close to that number, it has only been due of the great advantage of the numerous blogs and availability of the Internet as well as the fact that I could never remember what recipes I had in what book!! I am hoping with the advent of this website that I may finally be able to give into my desire to own them all!

Looking forward to future chats.

Welcome, I'm new too.  I have a few cookbooks but not a lot and I'm interested in seeing how this works.

Just getting started.  I have a little over 100 books.  Does anyone else have a spouse who has a "one book in, one book out" rule to keep the clutter down?

Please don't give my husband any suggestions.  I go to library sales and always come home with more books than I should.  Lucky for me, my husband never says anything about it.

Hi, I'm from Colorado and have been listing my books this weekend and just a few of them are indexed. I'm looking forward to seeing more of them indexed. I realize how nice it will be already to get better use out of the cookbooks I have with this site ( like another cook said instead of going to all recipes.com.

Welcome cougargal and all other new members in the last month.

If you Index Request your unindexed books that adds another point to its score on our indexing chart.  You can filter your Unindexed books by clicking Unindexed books under Filter by... at top right.  If you sort them by Popularity (the sort box is in the green bar where the search word box is) you can assume that any of your books on more than 40 Bookshelves will be indexed in the next couple of months or so.

I'm a stay at home mom, former lawyer, military spouse living in Biloxi, MS.  I love to cook and am enjoying indexing all my cookbooks.  It is very ironic that after all the inputing, the one recipe I wanted to find was cold pear soup and it isn't in any of my cookbooks!  Another sad thing is that I had collected 7 years of Southern Living cookbooks (1993-1999) and I had hoped this website would help me use them-- but none of them are indexed :-(.    I am really looking forward to using my beloved cookbooks more.

Hi, I am The Notorious K.A.E. (a joke, of course)  Kae is my middle name, and I'm on lots of food boards with different names.  I live in UpState New York, and love to cook.  I have a pathetic nmber of c/b's compared to some of you, but i weed out and donate, so I'm buying more!

Before this site, the original plan was to scan the recipes I wanted and then sell it when I was done.  That's not going to happen.  Now I can use all of my books.  Love the ability to use Australian c/b's. My mum-in-law sent me recipes and a now favorite c/b.

You know what Doris Day used to sing:  What will be, will be.

Hi,

I found out about this service yesterday from The Age, a newspaper in Melbourne. What a brilliant idea! Instead of doing the washing and ironing I've been sitting in front of my bookshelves adding my books. To my mind a far more productive use of my time! Apart from the convenience of have my books and mags indexed I am really pleased to see the facility for adding online recipes and clippings. I am loving this - it is a seriously useful service. Kudos to the innovators.

Hi - Just wanted to stop by here and say hello to everyone.  I am really enjoying learning how to use this site.  I've found so many recipes in my stash that I've been meaning to make.  My husband is especially liking some of the cakes and desserts that I've been trying lately.  Hope everyone is having as much fun as I am here.  Mary

Hi Everyone

I live in Australia and am retired and 75 years young.

Being retired I have all the time in the world to cook and read my some 150 cookbooks.

hi there...haven't quite hit the  triple-figure mark in cookbooks but am dangerously close...next on the list is Naomi Duguid's new one on Burma (which is on the shortlist to visit as well)...great to discover this easy way to narrow down my browsing for inspiration on what's for dinner

Hi,

I'm Laura in southern California. I've always been a cook, but in recent years I've become allergic to so many foods that I have no choice but to make everything from scratch, all the time. No cheating with bouillion cubes or storebought pesto and no restaurants, ever.

SO, I'm doing a lot of reworking old recipes and searching for new ones. This site is such a great idea! I have many cookbooks that I love and used to cook out of a lot, but in recent years I've found myself just googling up something new rather than taking a book down off the shelf. But now I have twenty-some thousand recipes (from my favorite writers) at my fingertips!

Last night I found a recipe that I had made once years ago, loved, and promptly lost. Worth the price of admission right there.

Hi!  My name is Amy and I live in Parker, Colorado about 30 minutes south of Denver.  As a little girl, I remember sitting at the kitchen table pouring over a Betty Crocker cookbook for hours and hours. My mom was a home ec teacher and is married to a chef and I inherited the cookbook reading gene.

Until 2 years ago, I didn't realize how common it was to read cookbooks. I've been teased about it by so many friends who think it sounds CRAZY.  I am an organizer of a Meetup group here that's all about women and food and recently learned that lots of us are also avid cookbook readers.  Started a cookbook book club this past summer and loving it!

I own about 350 cookbooks...have 2 large bookshelves filled and no room for the gazillion more I want! My job is keeping me so busy these days that I'm reading a lot more than I'm cooking...sad, but I know I'll get back in the swing of things soon enough.

Love being able to tap into my collection with EYB and to read the stories of others on this thread.  Would love to cook with you all!!!

Hi I'm Lisa, I'm from Queensland Australia. I thought i was a cookbook addict until I saw how many cookbooks other members have. I don't have many at all in comparison. I must mingle with the wrong people who only have a couple of books on their shelves.

I like to cook a variety of food, if it has garlic even better. My favourite cookbook at the moment is 'Around my french table' by Dorie Greenspan'. In fact just made one of her quiches from it..I'm resisting the urge to go back for thirds.

Lisa
