Problems with mobile site: "My bookshelf" is actually full library, and "remember me" doesn't work   Go to last post Go to last unread

I recently signed up with Eat Your Books - on my desktop and my iPad the service is great, but there are two problems with using it on my iPhone (3GS, iOS 5.1.1) with the mobile site:

  1. Minor but annoying: the automatic login isn't working. Every time I go to the website, I have to log in again, and every time I check "Remember Me", but it doesn't.

  2. Much more important: the "my bookshelf" section isn't working at all; instead of showing the books I've added to my own collection, I seem to be getting the complete library, sorted by popularity (the first few books: Mastering the Art of French Cooking; Joy of Cooking; Silver Palate Cookbook; Barefoot Contessa Cookbook; Ad Hoc at Home; How to Cook Everything - only one of which I own). This doesn't happen on my desktop computer or on the iPad.

Trying to go to the full website on the iPhone doesn't work either: it keeps telling me I need to become a member, and when I log in again, it tells me to either go to the mobile site, or that I need to become a member ... and so on.

Am I doing something wrong? I hope I can resolve this, because one of the main ways I want to use the website is when I'm grocery shopping, and that's when I'm using the iPhone.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure why you are having the problems you are as I cannot replicate them on my iPhone and no-one else has reported these issues.  Hopefully if anyone else has the same problems they will report here.

Have you added the EYB icon to your iPhone?  This is explained in Help.  I think the problem you are having is due to the mobile version not remembering you as you may not have set your Safari browser to Accept cookies.  Select Settings, Safari then Accept cookies.  Select From visited and you should then find that it will remember you next time.

The issue of you seeing the Library rather than your Bookshelf is probably related.  The view of the Library sorted by Popularity is the default view when you are not signed in so I think you are seeing the Mobile version for someone not signed in.

So try what I suggested re Cookies and let us know if you still have an issue.

Just a thought.  Is it possible you're not logged into the site lostinasia?  If you've cleared your history or cache you may no longer be logged in which case you'd be viewing the site as non-members would see it.  Good luck, and let us know.

Thanks - this seems to have solved both problems. I've changed the Settings to Accept cookies from visited. I'm actually surprised I had the cookies set to "Never" (probably in one of my sporadic internet security and privacy panics): now I wonder my iPhone remembers so many other log-ins!
