Getting Started
Welcome to Eat Your Books - when you register as a member you've just taken the first step to change the way you use your cookbooks and magazines, you can even include your favorite online recipes and your own personal recipe clippings. Follow these 3 simple steps and you'll be amazed at how simple it becomes to find recipes.
Step 1 - Setting Up My Bookshelf
The Eat Your Books Library lists more than 94,000 cookbooks and magazines. To create your own online Bookshelf you need to select the cookbooks and magazines you own from the Library.
- Select Library
- Type in the title of the book or the author of books you want to find
- Click on +Bookshelf for any books you want to add to your Bookshelf
- Denotes that a Book has been added to your Bookshelf
- To add magazines, click on the Magazine tab and repeat process. See How To for more information about adding magazines.
If you have a large number of books you may prefer to use the Import Feature to scan the book barcodes for the ISBN or upload a list of ISBNs. Go to the How To section to find out more.
Step 2 - Search for Recipes in your cookbooks, magazines and more!
Select My Bookshelf - notice it will tell you how many recipes you can search for.
In this example we want to find all chocolate cake recipes
- Type the words that describe what you're looking for into the Search Box
- 298 Recipes for chocolate cake have been found
- You can include more words in the Search Box, such as banana to narrow down your search - or you can use the filters on the right hand side for a more precise search. Find out more about using the Only Show filter
Step 3 - Use Bookmarks to organize your Books and Recipes
Bookmarks can be used to help you organize your cookbooks, magazines and recipes, including online and personal clippings. These are just some of the ways you can use Bookmarks:
- tag books with different locations - useful if you keep your books in different places
- keep track of favorite recipes
- create menus
- tag recipes you want to do later
- group recipes together for different seasons or ingredients or occasions
and the list goes on. You'll have endless fun and how you use it will depend very much on your personality type!
- Simply click on the Bookmark tag
- Click on New to add a new Bookmark and
Save - or:
Select a Bookmark you've already set up and Save - Books and Recipes display their Bookmarks
- You can search within a Bookmarked group of Recipes or a Bookmarked group of Books
