Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Banana muffins

These were not sweet or flavorful, despite the fact that I used very ripe bananas. They might be good with stew.

  • Almost-famous peppermint bark

    • Aggie92 on December 28, 2015

Fabulous! Tastes like the expensive stuff from specialty stores. Tempering the chocolate takes some time, but is worth it. The layers did not seperate. The only change I made was to use a whole 6-ounce box of candy canes. The recipe only calls for using 3 candy canes and that is nowhere near enough to cover the top of the bark.

  • Slow-cooker Caribbean beef stew

    • jadenegro on April 26, 2013

For a slow cooker meal this was pretty solidly good. For me the primary seasoning was thyme so might increase the ginger/garlic and add a little onion.

  • Roast chicken with apricot stuffing

    • Cheri on December 29, 2012

This was really good. Had a 6 lb roaster from TJ's, and we got 3 meals out of this. Nice winter meal, and I will definately repeat. The tart dried apricot in the "stuffing" gave a very interesting twist to this dish. Pretty easy to assemble, Baked additional dressing outside of bird.

  • Marcela Valladolid's corn and poblano lasagna

    • GiselleMarie on August 29, 2022

I made this after visiting my husband in the hospital all day, so perhaps this isn’t the fairest of reviews. It was easy enough but it took me forever to complete all the steps. I was hoping it would be truly amazing but it was merely good. I have to use the poblano peppers growing in my garden so this served that purpose, but next time I’ll use more than the four called for in the recipe. Baking the dish uncovered resulted in hard edges, so I recommend covering it with foil.

I should mention that this came out looking exactly like it does in the magazine photo. It’s a gorgeous dish!

  • Prime rib

    • Cheri on December 25, 2013

Basically followed this recipe. Didn't have rosemary, so omitted. Otherwise, cooking instructions were spot on. Perfect medium rare, lovely. Served with horseradish sauce from Ad Hoc.

But be warned. They are strong. And they are amazing. This is a perfect cocktail for the holidays, and we plan on imbibing several over the next few weeks.
