Notes about Recipes in this Book

    • Spicy herb salad

      • wester on May 20, 2011

Very simple to make, lovely fresh and complex taste. Those handfuls do add up, so be careful you don't make too much of this salad. And don't even think of making it with those tiny supermarket packets of herbs - you need to grow your own herbs or have a greengrocer that sells his herbs in big bunches.

    • Butternut squash for one, two ways

In my copy of the book, this recipe is indexed under "Squash, Butter".

    Publishers Text

Renowned vegetarian cookbook author Deborah Madison set out to learn what people chew on when there isn't anyone else around. The responses are surprising--and we aren't just talking take-out or leftovers. This is food-gone--wild in its most elemental form.

In a conversational tone, What We Eat When We Eat Alone explores the joys and sorrows of eating solo and gives a glimpse into the lives of everyday people and their relationships with food.
