Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Grilled tofu

    • Meags on September 19, 2022

I didn't seed the Serrano, used a large one and a T of Cholula. Cut back on parsley if grilling.

  • Grilled portabello mushroom sandwiches with Manchego cheese

    • Meags on January 15, 2025

Amazing! I used cremini mushrooms instead of portobellos. Def making again!

  • Crepes stuffed with poblano chiles and spinach

    • Meags on September 19, 2022

Really really yummy! I gave it a 4.5 instead of 5 only because of the time it takes to make. The crepes take a while. I swapped kale from my garden for the spinach. My poblanos were a little spicy, so I omitted the hot sauce before baking for my husband's sake. I used Cholula on mine when serving.

  • Balsamic-Dijon vinaigrette

    • Meags on October 29, 2025

Good - pretty generic dressing like you'd expect

  • Black bean, tomato, and roasted poblano salad

    • Meags on September 19, 2022

Very good! Kale good sub for watercress. Would be great with avocadoes. Not spicy though.

  • Spicy lentil and feta cheese salad

    • Meags on September 19, 2022

Great! Use 1/8 c of oil and add more if needed.

  • Hot 'n' dirty rice salad

    • Meags on September 19, 2022

      Excellent!

  • Stir-fried sweet corn with green beans and chiles

    • London_Mummy on November 22, 2025

A quick, easy, tasty, crunchy, colourful, good-looking dish. Green beans & baby corn were on special offer at the supermarket, so when I got home, I searched my books & found this recipe. In the middle, I realised I had completely run out of both soy sauce (so I substituted Henderson's vegetarian Worcestershire sauce & extra lemon juice) & basil (so I substituted coriander). I also substituted four pickled jalapenos for two fresh ones, because one of my kids left behind a massive jar of picked jalapenos & I never waste food!

  • Mustard-glazed roasted root vegetables

    • Meags on December 06, 2022

Wow! This is a fantastic roasted vegetable recipe! I skipped the salt. Did a combo of Japanese sweet potatoes, carrots, onion and Brussels sprouts. Put in oven, went on a walk for an hour and done! Okay even without stirring during cooking.

    • London_Mummy on November 02, 2025

I made this recipe out of thrift, because I was already using the oven to bake a cake at the same temperature, also for 1 hour. I used sweet potatoes, carrots & potatoes. I wish I had checked after 40-45 minutes, because they got a bit too charred. They are still edible in say, a quiche, but are not suitable as a side dish.

Publishers Text

In JUMP UP AND KISS ME, Jennifer Trainer Thompson puts spice into vegetarian cuisine with nearly 200 full-flavored recipes for everything from vinegars (like Rosemary-Serrano Red Wine Vinegar) and condiments (like Curried Butter) to drinks (like the Ginger Cooler) and entr?©es (Poblano and Spinach Crepes). Recipes reflect a range of ethnic cuisines and are designed for vegetarians as well as the increasing number of people who just want to eat less meat. The author's line of foodstuffs (including a hot sauce) with the same name as the cookbook was introduced into gourmet markets last fall.
