Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Shrimp, fennel, and sun-dried tomato sauté

    • wester on April 22, 2010

Very good. No big surprises, but a good combination of sunny flavors. Easy to make.

  • Calamari puttanesca

    • wester on September 03, 2010

Strongflavored Mediterranean seafood. Maybe a tad salty, even without any added salt. I made this with mixed seafood instead of just squid, which is nice too.

  • Spinach and chick peas in spiced yogurt

    • wester on September 03, 2010

      Nice easy aromatic vegetarian meal.

  • Szechuan spicy eggplant

    • wester on September 03, 2010

This does taste quite 'Chinese'. I wasn't very taken with boiling instead of frying the eggplant, but my husband was. Next time I will eggfry the rice going with this.

  • Moroccan tagine

    • wester on October 24, 2010

This wasn't bad at all, but there are so many other things you could do with the same ingredients that are a lot better (such as roasting them). I probably won't make it again.

  • Smoked pork chops with beer-braised cabbage

    • wester on February 18, 2011

This was quite good. Hearty winter fare. But I do think it is in the wrong cookbook, as I'm pretty sure it would be better with mashed potatoes, or with buttered noodles, than it was with rice.

  • Thai chicken, mushroom, and basil stir-fry

    • wester on March 10, 2011

This one is quite hot, and the hotness is unevenly distributed: the mushrooms get very hot, but the chicken not so much. I'm not sure I like that. I would also only just wilt the basil, not cook it. Apart from that, a good bastardization of Thai kitchen. Don't reheat, the basil doesn't like that.

  • Tuna bouillabaisse

    • wester on August 30, 2011

This did nothing for me. It tasted well, but there was nothing special or even particular about the taste. Won't bother with this again.
