About CulinaryB
Cooking has always been an avocation! In 1991, I decided to make it a vocation by attending Culinary School. I received my degree from The James Rumsey School of Culinary Arts in 1993 at the age of 47. I then went on the receive a BS in Hotel/Restaurant Management from Shepherd College in Shepherdstown WV, at the age of 50. While I had always wanted to be a chef, I realized about 1/2 way through the program that I no longer had the stamina required so I decided to go into catering. I apprenticed at several large catering firms but decided to go it alone. I started my own business, Culinary Creations - Small Event Catering and Intimate Dinners. I also make cakes, wedding cakes a specialty. I have over 800 cookbooks so catagorizing them will take time and patience. Even just listing them seems a daunting task but I really like the idea that I can find recipes I want from my own books on this site. Unfortunately, this site does not have all of my books. So far, only about 1/2 so I hope more are added as time goes by. I also am and expert bread baker and make all kinds of breads both for personal use and to sell. In addition to the books, I have two filing cabinets full of recipes and I subscribe to the better cooking magazines (Fine Cooking, Cooks Illustrated etc.), all of which I keep and index so that I can find what I need. I also have a well-worn and well-loved general recipe index, started years ago, which houses all my absolute favorites with notes. I date and state annotate every recipe I use so that I can go back and use them again (if they are good!) Sometimes I will just draw a red line through the recipe! As I am VERY organized, my system has helped me do what I love best in the best way possible, but I think this site may also be a great tool! Right now, I have 104 books on my shelf and that is just 1 bookcase (and not every book could be found!) 104 and counting......!
