I live in Berkeley and collecting cookbooks has been a passion of mine for years. Most of my cookbooks are real oldies and somewhat obscure, so aren't likely to be represented on this site. I have a fondness for the old books as they don't have many pre-prepared convenience foods called for in their recipes and I like to cook most everything from scratch. I read them as idea books mainly, as generally my go-to books are more recent. My interest in cooking has been revitalized within the last few years as my husband and I have been making a once a week "big" dinner for our children and grandchildren. We both grew up with that kind of family dinner and are dedicated to making it a part of our grandchildren's lives also. As a side benefit, the grandchildren are learning to cook and even more importantly learning to taste and have an appreciation for a wide variety of foods.
