Marie Simmons

Biography

Marie Simmons is an award-winning cookbook author, popular cooking teacher, and food writer. Her recipes and food articles have appeared in hundreds of magazines. For more than 18 years she wrote the Cooking For Health monthly column for Bon Appétit magazine and was a weekly columnist for the Los Angeles Times Syndicate and the Contra Costa Times.

Marie has written or co-written more than 20 cookbooks, including Taste of Honey; Fig Heaven; Fresh & Fast; Things Cooks Love (for Sur La Table) nominated for a Julia Child Cookbook Award; The Amazing World of Rice, the second of two cookbooks she has written on the subject; The Good Egg, winner of a James Beard Award; and Lighter, Quicker, Better written with Richard Sax and winner of IACP Julia Child and James Beard awards.

Marie and her husband, John, now live in the amazing community of Eugene, OR where they are the proud guardians of five hens, tend a small vegetable garden and are backyard beekeepers on their bee-friendly (pesticide-free) block.
