Ruth Reichl

Biography

As chef and co-owner of The Swallow Restaurant from 1974 to 1977, Ruth Reichl played a part in the culinary revolution that took place in Berkeley, California. In the years that followed, she served as restaurant critic for New West and California magazines. She became the food editor and restaurant critic at the Los Angeles Times in 1984, the restaurant critic at The New York Times in 1993, and she was the last Editor in Chief at Gourmet Magazine. She lives in New York City.
