Making groceries last longer
October 30, 2012 by LindsayFirst, we want to send all our members who were affected by Hurricane Sandy our very best wishes; we hope you’re safe and recovery will be swift.
And since survival is on our mind, we thought it appropriate to share this article from BuzzFeed Food, 27 Ways to Make Your Groceries Last as Long as Possible. The article is full of sage advice, including lots of tips about a variety of herbs, but deals with many other items. Novel ideas include using a vinegar solution to preserve fresh berries; adding a dab of butter to the cut side of cheese to keep it from drying out; and wrapping broccoli, lettuce, and celery in tin foil.
We imagine most of these ideas came from creative cooks, like our members. Feel free to share any of your storage ideas, we’d love to hear them.
