Everything you needed to know about the world's best-selling cookie

Oreo sheet cake

It's probably not too surprising that Oreos are the world's best-selling cookie. After all, people have been known to rate possible friends, even marital candidates, based on whether they ate the cookie as a sandwich, or twisted off the top and licked the inside. Or whether they prefer their Oreo dunked or undunked. So here's a few facts on Oreos that we thought you might be interested in (chosen from BuzzFeed's 13 Things You Don't Know About Oreo Cookies):

  • The first Oreo was sold in Hoboken, New Jersey.
  • The cookie-to-creme ratio of an original Oreo cookie is 71% to 29%.
  • They became kosher in 1998.
  • 50% of all Oreo eaters pull apart their cookies before eating them. Also, women twist them open more often than men.

But we really wanted to write about Oreos to remind people - as they go into the long weekend at least here in the U.S. - that an Oreo cake is one of the simplest - and best - summertime recipes going. And it can easily feed a party. Here's a highly rated version from Two Peas and Their Pod, full recipe available online, that we found at the EYB libary.

Sorry - Oreos are on our blacklist after the disgusting way Kraft's CEO behaved after the Cadbury takeover - ditto their cheese and anything else with their brand. Vote with your wallet. RayS

no loaded transfat creme cookie form me! no thanks! the black cocoa they use fools us into thinking their cookies must be really chocolatey....but it's the least chocolatey cocoa of the lot.
