One million recipes indexed on EYB!

Million recipes indexed

One million recipes - and every one added by a human being not a bot.  Because EYB is a database, not a word search, every recipe has to be entered manually.  For cookbooks and magazines, all details are typed in by an indexer.  I wouldn't like to calculate how many keystrokes a million recipes required but let's just say it's a lot.

Here's a breakdown of that million recipes (the total is more than 100% because there are book and magazine recipes available online):

Cookbooks - 86% of total recipes
Magazines - 8% of total recipes
Online - 12% of total recipes

The very first book that was indexed, back in 2008 when we were setting up the site, was Happy Days with the Naked Chef by Jamie Oliver. Since then 4,506 books have been indexed as well as almost 1,500 magazines and 71 websites and blogs.

And a big thank you goes to our EYB members who have contributed so much to that total - 20% of the indexed books have been done by members and 10% of the online recipes were added by members using the Bookmarklet.  We so appreciate all those contributions.  With your help it should take a lot less than 5 years to reach two million recipes indexed.

    Congratulations! EYB has made my own books much more useful and made the internet recipe search so much more productive.

    The millionth recipe put up on EYB was Rhubarb sauce (Koreshe rivas) from In a Persian Kitchen by Maideh Mazda
