New Bookmarks feature

You will notice when you look at your Bookshelf Recipes tab that there is now a chef's hat icon* before every recipe title. This is a new Bookmark feature that will show you at a glance on your recipe search results whether you have cooked a recipe (green), want to cook a recipe (orange) or have not chosen either (gray) - as shown in the 3 recipes below. You can also filter your recipes by those Bookmarks, using the filters at top right.

I Cooked This

When you bookmark a recipe that you have cooked, you can also now add the date that you cooked it and that will appear in your Notes (not visible to other members). The chef's hat can also be used to access your Bookmarks list.

And finally, a Bookmark feature that many members requested, you can now edit the names of your Bookmarks. Click Bookmarks under the My Bookshelf tab and against each Bookmark (except for the fixed EYB Bookmarks) there is a pencil icon to edit.

We plan in the future to use the "I Cooked This" recipe data to be able to do fun things like "most cooked recipe of the year" or "most cooked-from cookbook".

* If you cannot see the chef hat icons but are seeing a blue Bookmark button before every recipe on your Bookshelf, your browser has cached an older version of the site. Try doing a screen refresh - CTRL F5 on a laptop and CMD Shift R on a Mac. If after a few tries of that it has still not cleared, the next step is to delete your browser history/cache in the Settings for your browser.

This is exactly what I want. At the moment I mark a recipe as 'cooked' by rating it. On the desktop it shows what you have rated if you hover over the stars. However you can't do that on a phone or tablet. With the new chef hat I will be able to see quickly if I have cooked it before, or on my to cook list. Thanks

I did a search for a recipe within a book I cooked from today, but when it shows up in the resulting list, it cannot be tagged as cooked. Can you only tag recipes when searched for within the entirety of my bookshelf?

The "I have cooked this" worked well. The only pity is that if you do not have twenty-twenty vision it is hard to tell the difference between the green hats and the grey hats. It is same problem that came when the stars were turned from bright yellow to pale green with the site upgrade.

This is great - is there any way to bulk edit? I've already got a bookmark "have cooked" that would be great to convert all at once.

jlg84 - all Bookmark functions have to be done from your Bookshelf. Cati - sorry to hear you cannot distinguish between the green and gray hats. Is there any improvement that can be made on the color resolution on your monitor?

j_h - I'm afraid there isn't an easy way to switch recipes from one Bookmark to another. The fastest way I think would be to filter your Bookshelf recipes by your "have cooked" bookmark then go down each one clicking the chef hat to select our new "I've cooked this". Then after you have done them all, delete the "have cooked" bookmark from your Bookmarks list.

Jane. More importantly, the orange symbol leaps out at you, reminding you of all the recipes you wanted to try soon!

Huzzah and deepest thanks for the ability to edit Bookmark names along with the useful chef's hat features.

Thank you! This feature, including the date (for when I made something) is something I've wished for since I joined EYB.

Great feature! Thank you. Can't wait to try it out.

I love this! And I have a suggestion: would it be possible to also have an icon for "I don't want to cook this"? That way I could also mark recipes if there is an unwanted ingredient, or if my friends have tried it and dislike it, etc. Black would be a nice color for those icons, I think.

Love the little chef hats! so much easier to see which recipes have been used before. My only qualm is that in the old bookmarking, I liked to notate every date when the recipe was made, not just the latest, but I suppose a running list of dates might be out of the question!
