Introducing the Eat Your Books Cookbook Club

We are happy to announce the Eat Your Books Cookbook Club - an online cooking group where we will cook through one or more cookbooks every month, share our photos and thoughts on the recipes and have fun! Beginning in October, I will do a recap of what folks are cooking up in the group and share it twice monthly here on the Eat Your Books blog. 

There are no set rules - if a book (or the alternate) doesn't appeal to you feel free to skip that month. The only requirement is that you purchase the book and do not share the actual recipes from the titles. If recipes are online, you may, of course, participate in that fashion. Pick one, two or more recipes that appeal to you to cook - of course no one can cook an entire book of recipes in one month. This is a fun exercise not meant to be a chore. If you cook one recipe, great - if you cook a dozen, great - if the book doesn't appeal to you (or the alternate choices) skip that month. If you want to join the group to just see what others are cooking, keep up with EYB news or comment on anothers post only that is fine too.

Previously known as The Cookbook Junkies Cookbook Club, we already have 3,900 members (45,000 members in The Cookbook Junkies group). We have featured some great titles already The Harvest Baker, Dinner Changing the Game, Eat in My Kitchen and a few others. The other benefit of joining the group is that you will never miss a giveaway or kindle deal as I will share those in the group as well. (Also being done in The Cookbook Junkies). 

Tentatively, we have already scheduled out the rest of the year as follows:

In late November, I will set up a poll so that everyone can vote for cookbooks to feature in 2018.  

Come join us - we will have a great time! The cookbook club is a place to try new recipes from our books, inspire each other and share.

    I stopped participating in a couple of cookbook clubs because they ended up being a lot of work and I couldn't keep up. I'm so excited for this one. I just bought Bread, Toast, Crumb today and am ready to dive in.

    Would you please tag these cookbooks with a bookclub label? It would help one go back to find cookbooks you've missed.

    So will we each do one or two recipes to cover the entire book? I too couldn't do an entire book but would love to participate!

    Updated the post with more information --- the cookbook club posts are tagged with #cookbook club. @mjes - tag the cookbooks - i.e., something special to tag them in the library?

    What does this have anything to do with with EYB? I really want to stay mostly here and promote this site.

    Rinshin - this is EYB's group - just as other sites have cookbook clubs - we thought it would be nice to offer it here. Since I took over here as Cookbook Promotions Manager - I post non-stop about EYB, giveaways, posts in The Cookbook Junkies and on my personal instagram and twitter - this group is made to grow the Eat Your Book website.

    We tried getting Cooking along with... topics going on the Forum without much success so we feel a FB group that is already active as a Cookbook Club will be more successful. We hope that people in that group who may not yet have tried EYB may feel encouraged to join.

    I didn't join EYB for quite awhile, but after being frustrated going through all my cookbooks because I couldn't remember where I saw a recipe, the lightbulb went off and I joined. Anyway, I look forward to cooking from some of these cookbooks.

    I follow Cookbook Junkies on Facebook. All those chosen books are on EYB and most are so popular that FB postings and EYB Notes often duplicate. After a month of Melissa Clark's "Dinner..." (which I experimented with and bought on Kindle [and I discovered I hate Kindle cookbooks], I am ordering the hard copy through Amazon with an EYB pass-through commission. Good for me; good for EYB, not an either/or.

    I like that there are two cookbooks to choose from. For those of us with extensive libraries, I think it offers opportunities to cook from books we may already own.

    Is it only on FB? I joined the group, but I really dislike Facebook so probably won't be that involved. Otherwise, I like the book choices.

    Are the posts on the club site also going to show up as notes for the recipes on EYB? Like Eliza, I really dislike FB and don't belong to it, so I hope that comments will be available attached to the recipes on EYB.

    Jenny will be encouraging the FB group members to post their reviews and photos on EYB as well as in the cookbook club.

    I mentioned in a blog comment my desire to add a third book each month - an oldie-but-goodie i.e. a historical cookbook that has retained relevance such as Tasajara Bread Cookbook, Laurel's Kitchen, the Frugal Gourmet, Claiborne, Childs, Beard, Edna Lewis ... Anyway, I just thought I should mention it here. The other thing I would like is an obvious link for eatyourbooks.com website to this bookclub facebook page.

    I have always wanted to be part of a cookbook club! We review cookbooks for my website, but I can only get about 10 recipes deep in a book. Great idea and seems manageable and I look forward to seeing what other people cook!

    I understand why you are trying Facebook, but don't use Facebook either so can't join in. I wonder if there was a way to connect the EYB site more to the cookbook club Facebook so that we could comment more directly from the EYB site? Either via the Forum (but with a link/window easily found through the main page or navigation) or via comments? Sorry to be another Facebook naysayer...I just wanted to echo other sentiments of trying to keep things in the very lovely, pleasantly usable eyb site!
