Hot Mess Kitchen - Recipe and giveaway

Hot Mess Kitchen: Recipes for Your Delicious Disastrous Life by Gabi Moskowitz and Miranda Berman is high octane, low budget fun geared toward the millennial.

Recipes range from Quarter-life crisis queso to I created a relationship in my mind cupcakes (where was this recipe when I was in my twenties?) The hot mess cook can stop calling out for delivery, microwaving ramen and start cooking up some fun dishes that are guaranteed to be delicious.

The hot mess authors even deliver some international flavors with A pad (thai) of one's own, Fried brain fried rice, and Trying to make ends meet tofu which looks pretty darn good; while also deliving some tongue-in-cheek therapy as a side dish. Other fun recipes include How to cook a chicken breast that doesn't suck, All my friends are married mud pie and Sushi you can actually make, we swear.

This book is a little Younger meets Sex in the City bumps into Mean Girls and crashed into Ten Dollar Dinners - perfect for someone going off to college or moving into their first place. The book is whimsically snarky and shares solid dishes (that we should all have in our repertoire), along with tips and tricks for entertaining on a shoestring while delivering up a few laughs. Salty language sprinkled throughout. The authors have events scheduled that we have shared on our calendar including one tomorrow in San Francisco.

Thanks to Grand Central Publishing and the authors for sharing this recipe with our members today. The publisher is also offering three copies of this title to our members in the US and Canada - be sure to scroll down to enter.

Serves 2

Ingredients

8 ounces dried spaghetti
2 strips uncooked bacon
3 cloves garlic, sliced
2 eggs, lightly beaten
½ cup grated Parmesan
Salt and pepper

Directions

Cook the spaghetti according to package directions in salted boiling water. Drain, reserving ¼ cup of the cooking water.

Heat a large dry frying pan over medium-high heat. Cook bacon strips for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, or until brown and crisp. Discard all but 1 tablespoon of the bacon fat. Dry the bacon on paper towels and let cool. When it is cool enough, chop or crumble the bacon and set aside.

Cook the sliced garlic in the reserved bacon fat over medium heat for 30 seconds, or just until fragrant.

Add the drained pasta and the reserved cooking water and toss together using tongs. Cook for 1 minute, or until cooking liquid begins to absorb.

Remove the pan from heat, add the eggs, and mix thoroughly. Continue tossing the pasta with one hand, to avoid scrambling the eggs, and add the Parmesan. Toss well. Add the crumbled bacon, season with salt and pepper to taste (careful with the salt - the bacon is already salty), and serve hot.
