Bread & Butter Promotion

Bread and Butter: History, Culture, Recipes by Richard Snapes (The Snapery), Grant Harrington (Ampersand Butter Culture) and Eve Hemingway is a celebration of the divine partnership: bread and butter. I have recently embraced the satisfaction of creating my own bread. There are many things that make a house welcoming and surely the aroma of bread baking is one of the best.

Bread and Butter is a love letter to two artisanal products that have graced our tables for centuries with the earliest record of this union being in 1492. The book delves deeply into the history and culture behind the bread and butter partnership, sharing a global overview that brings us to the present day.

The photographs are stunning with ingredient amounts being given in both weight and volume. The recipes range from brioche to flatbreads. I was particularly excited to find the Swedish bun, Kanelbullar featured here. I became aware of this bun a few weeks ago and am thrilled that this book also shares step-by-step photos so that this flaky, twisted delight can be made with confidence.

Let's talk butter. Bread is life giving but butter makes that life worth living. Recipes for butter sauces and creams as well as dishes that highlight butter are provided. The book ends with a selection of recipes that incorporate the dream team, such as Brioche and butter pudding.

Our   provides a look inside this title and features the following

There are many reasons to love this book: the historical background, the detailed instructions, the inspiring photographs, and the recipes are foremost. This book and a loaf of bread would be an ideal housewarming gift not to mention a gift that any cookbook lover would enjoy.

Oh yum. I would first read "Looking after your sourdough starter" to see what's possible in our off-grid no-fridge home (but sourdough is what they used before they had fridges, no?) and then I'd go for that rosemary olive bread which I notice seems to be calling to so many others who have commented so far.
