Each month Gourmet magazine made me happy; even if I just read the lengthly articles without recipes.  Remember the multi page interview with Lionel Poilane?  I learned more about bread baking that Gourmet interview without a single recipe than anything else.  Now does anyone remember the issue date for that interview?  i"d certainly like to reread.

I haven't found a magazine to replace Gourmet yet.  Sigh. Has anyone else?

At this point I'll purchase single issues then if the magazine holds my attention for the second month then it's a go for a subscription.  So far no subscriptions.

Sunset magazine started me on many food adventures.  Although I had a sourdough that allegedly came to Montana with the gold rush, Sunset provided me with the recipes to really soar with sourdough.  Didn't Sunset revisit sourdough basics about every ten years?  Over the weekend I made a sourdough gingerbread cake from December 1988.  The only change was the use of whole grain pastry flour, sifted.

Is Sunset too regional for EYB?

We don't apply any regional limitations to which cookbooks are indexed - our sole criteria is how many members own the cookbook and how many index requests we get.  Our exceptions to this are important new cookbooks that we want to get indexed as soon as they are published.  And we have separate charts for the UK and Australia which are newer areas for us, so have lower numbers of member Bookshelves and requests.

Southern Living and Sunset Books will have the same criteria as any other book - how many members want it indexed.  The Sunset Cookbook collection you mention robm is on 38 Bookshelves and has already been assigned to an indexer so you should see it up in the next month (it's a very large book).  The Sunset Seafood Cookbook was indexed a couple of months ago.

Five Southern Living books have been indexed so far and more will be done in the next couple of months.  But unless we suddenly gain a whole load of Southern members (which could happen if the magazine wrote about EYB, hint, hint!) most of the Southern Living books will remain unindexed unless they get member indexed.  The same applies to the Sunset books - help us get more Sunset readers to be members and the books will get indexed faster!

Following this thread, I thought I'd check on a book I own and love that isn't indexed (hoping that it was somewhere near the threshold for indexing!), From Bangkok to Bail in 30 Minutes. I find that there are two versions in the library (hardback, on 14 bookshelves, and paperback, on 5 bookshelves). The two books don't have any links. Just curious - how does this show up in terms of popularity? 

I have been wondering about that too, as I have noticed that several of my books are not linked:

Recipes from Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons by Raymond Blanc  4 editions – 2 UK editions and 2 US editions on 27 bookshelves

Wild Garlic, Gooseberries and Me: A Chef's Stories and Recipes from the Land by Denis Cotter 3 editions  on a total of 32 bookshelves

Salads: The New Main Course by Peter Gordon  2 UK editions and  2 US editions (one of them in Spanish) on 29 bookshelves

Do you link US editions to UK or Australian editions?

We generally only link books that are indexed as the only advantage of linking books is that they share the recipe data.  However, we do intend in the future to put all books in groups so they share info such as Notes, Reviews, Ratings, Bookshelves and Index requests. 

We combine the Bookshelves and Index Requests for the different editions to create our indexing queue.  The books you list Tommelise are all in the queue.  We do link US, UK and Australian editions.  If the different country editions warrant separate indexing (i.e. each country edition is on a lot of Bookshelves) then we will index them separately e.g. as has happened with most of Nigella's books.  We have just re-indexed the Australian version of Neil Perry's The Food I Love as we originally indexed the US edition.  And we will do more as we come across them - so if you ever feel you have editions that should be indexed separately, as there are significant differences between the editions, please let us know by emailing us on [email protected].

One of our next projects is to improve the functionality of the Forum, introducing search and spell checker.

Vanessa - From Bangkok to Bali would have the Bookshelf numbers plus Index Requests from the two editions combined, but 19 total isn't enough to yet place it in the queue.

When you think about it, its quite logical that you only need to link books when they are indexed : D

I am looking  very much forward to the spell check, as I  always have to check my spelling several times before posting -  or writing notes  ( English is not my first language)

Any Update on the linking of titles and their respective notes and reviews - as mentioned above.   I find, as others do, that sometimes my edition is not linked to the one that has been indexed, and notes and reviews never seem to cross from one edition to the other.  This would really be helpful! Thanks, and again, keep up the great work!

If you ever find your edition of a book is not linked to an indexed book then let us know at [email protected] and we will link it ASAP.

We do still intend to change the way books are linked so that Notes and Reviews are shared across all editions.  I don't have a date though as we have some other development projects we are working on.
