I think I've realized what the problem is for some people - we rather stupidly put an image of the Bookmarklet in the news box to illustrate what it looked like - this is just an image, not the Bookmarklet (now changed).  The actual Bookmarklet is in the right hand column under the heading "NEW!  Add recipes to your Bookshelf from any website...".

If you use the Bookmarklet from this position and follow these instructions it should work.  I just tried it using a very old version of Firefox 3.6 and the latest 9.01, so it does work.

- If you don't have your Bookmarks Toolbar turned on you need to do this extra step.   Right click on the grey area next to your Google search box.  You should see 3 options  Menu Bar, Navigation Toolbar, Bookmarks Toolbar.   Make sure there is a tick against the Bookmarks Toolbar.

-  Go to the Home Page and select the icon in the right hand side - drag it and drop it on the toolbar.

rivergait -  Yes you should see an indexing input form.  It sounds like you have added the link to your Bookmarks drop down, rather than the Toolbar.  It wasn't working as it was the wrong link, as explained above, but would recommend you add it to the Toolbar.  I just tried adding a recipe using both and a click on the Toolbar brought over the recipe image, but the Bookmark link didn't.

Unfortunately, no the changes do not seem to show up on the recipe page either. If I click on the pencil icon again, the changes did not actually save there either.

OK I'll pass this on to our developers. There should be a new release of the site going up tonight or tomorrow with some fixes so we'll make sure this is there too.

I am happy to report that the editing function for member-indexed online recipes is working. Thanks for the quick-fix!

One more question...I was wondering if Everyday Food Magazine could be added to the author list for member indexed online recipes. Almost all the recipes from Marthastewart.com come from either Everday Food, Martha Stewart Living, or Whole Living magazines, but Everyday Food is the only one I can't find on the list. Thanks.

It is now added.  Thank you Chris for the many online recipes you have been adding.  They are so well indexed I haven't had to do any editing at all.

Thanks Jane, and you're welcome :)   It was easy to start indexing online recipes since I'm already familiar with the manual from indexing books.  It really does get faster & easier to index the more you do it!

Oh joy, oh rapture!  I have removed from my long suffering coffee table a considerable pile of food sections of the Washington Post by indexing them!  As time permits, I will keep at it from my clippings file.

Furthermore, there is no danger to another reader who wants to enter a recipe already indexed. I happily discovered that a recipe I was about to index was from an already indexed book.  The system works!  Thanks for this great feature of online member indexing.  Now I will get back to indexing the Meatball Cookbook Bible.

Can the Bookmarklet be used with the Chrome browser, and if so, how?

#30 Posted : Tuesday, January 31, 2012 11:13:19 PM(UTC)

Hi Andie - yes it can be used with Google Chrome and any browser that supports Bookmarklets.  You have to have your Bookmarks bar turned on and you just drag and drop the Bookmarklet button on to it.

Follow these instructions How do I install the EYB Bookmarklet on Google Chrome?

And if you want to install on an iPad How do I install the EYB Bookmarklet on an iPad?

Let me know if anything isn't clear.

I have just made a good recipe from Nigella Lawson which she demonstrated on TV. but of course didnt spell out the amount of one of the important ingredients.I was lucky enough to find it on internet and have put it in my personal recipes. But I thought it might be worthwhile putting in bookmarklet if someone clever could do it.( I havent got bookmarklet onto my ipad yet-wating for someone more savvy to visit and put it on for me).
The recipe is Venetian carrot cake and can be found at www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/ gluten free . Apart from gluten free which didnt interest me it is low sodium which I wanted .It is also written in grams which is more accurate than cup measurements which are given on another site.It would be good if some kind person had time to do it.

Hi Cati,

That recipe looks delicious...I indexed it for you, but I may have to try it myself!

Thank you very much Christine for doing that. Hope you try it and enjoy. Cath.

I tried to add a recipe from Cooks Illustrated online (I have both the magazine and online subscriptions) and I got the message that it was an aggregator site and could not be added?  Shouldn't it be allowed to be added?  thanks, nt

#35 Posted : Sunday, February 5, 2012 12:14:02 PM(UTC)

I think it's not working because Cook's Illustrated online requires membership and the recipes are not publicly available. Maybe try adding it as a personal recipe and include the online link there?

#36 Posted : Sunday, February 5, 2012 1:22:43 PM(UTC)

chris08226 is quite right.  We have had to block Cook's Illustrated as a source of online recipes in the Library as most EYB members will not be able to access the site as it has a paywall (you have to be a member).  But as Christine says, there is nothing to stop you adding the recipe as a personal recipe that only you will see.  You can add the URL and you should be able to connect to the recipe using the Online recipe link, either through the CI cookie on your computer or by logging in to CI first.

Just thought I'd use this thread, rather than start a new one, to post about a problem I'm having. I was trying to add this recipe to the database but am getting an error message:

https://zalliefamilymark...osemary-top-round-steak/

Oh, I just realized (as I pasted that) why I'm probably getting the error message. It must be because of the 's' in https. Right? All right. I guess I'll just have to add this one as a personal recipe.

The issue here is that the site has installed a block to stop data being scraped or downloaded so we were unable to import the recipe title and image. The issue isn't the s in https - that just means that the site has been verified as legitimate and has been issued a security certificate.

So you will have to add this recipe as a Personal Recipe rather than importing it to the Library.

No problem. Thanks for all the info, Jane. You're always so good about replies on the forum--it's much appreciated.
