Puzzled by how few bookshelves contained Ottolenghi's Plenty (U.S. edition), I took a look at the author page.  Part of the answer seems to be that hundreds of U.S.ians didn't wait for the US edition and bought the UK version.  I can understand that the two editions might be different enough not to be linked (though I'm skeptical; are they both not organized the same way, by ingredient?). 

But then I saw that there are two listings for the US hardcover, with the same ISBN; 79 users have assigned one listing to their bookshelf and 32 to another.   Is it possible to merge these?  Or, if not, at least to link them?

I agree ellabee, I think that would be a great feature.  

This was a mistake that there were two listings of Ottolenghi's Plenty with the same ISBN.  They have now been merged.  But I didn't understand your point about them not being linked - they were all linked to the indexed master so you should see the recipes, no matter which edition you own.

Ah, I see.  That isn't possible right now but we do intend in the future, after we get a couple of big development projects out the way, to change the way we link books.  We will group them instead which will allow us to pool all the info about the books - ratings, notes, reviews, # of Bookshelves.  And you would then see any edition of the book you have as being in common with you when you look at their Booskhelves.

Thanks for your reply, Jane.  However, something must still be awry in the database, because the duplicates still appear on the author page for Yotam Ottolenghi, one on 84 shelves and the other on 31.   The chain symbol on the UK edition shows that the 84-shelf version (pub date 3/9/2011) is linked.  And, when you click on the 31-bookshelf listing (pub date 3/23/2011), it goes to the 'not found' page, probably because it has been deleted.  So it may have been merged, but it still appears, at least in that setting.  And there is no error message if you click to add it to your bookshelf, though it would probably not appear when you went to look at your bookshelf.

Another (related?) anomaly is that if you enter 'Ottolenghi' in the Library/Books search box, only two listings appear: the book _Ottolenghi_ and the UK edition of Plenty; the US editions are missing altogether.

Yes ellabee, there's is something odd with that listing.  I've put our developers on to it so hopefully it will be fixed by tomorrow.

The US editions of Ottolenghi's book Plenty are not missing, it's just that they are linked to indexed UK editions so you need to click the links icon to see them.  You would then click the ISBN you own and click +Bookshelf on that book details page to add it to your Bookshelf. It's not an ideal situation as the linked books are "hidden" from ISBN searches, though if you entered the ISBN in the Import Books box, the correct ISBN would be added to your Bookshelf.  Our intended solution to this is the grouping that I outlined in my last post.
