Hi my fellow recipe collectors and foodies. I have a huge quesiton. I am looking for a caramel mushroom recipe that does not use butternut snaps as the base for the caramel. Can anyone give me a hint on what i can use instead?

I think using butternut snaps must be a uniquely Australian thing as those cookies aren't readily available outside the country. There are several caramelized mushroom recipes in the Library with Online Recipe links, none of which include cookies.

This recipe makes its own base, but with a cream filling. i wonder if the base could be used with the caramel filling that the caramel mushrooms have https://www.baby-mac.com/2015/06/retro-goodness/

I reckon you're on target Ganga108  ... you jogged my memory of those amazing little cake/tart/cookies - great for kids parties!! But I also like Jane's sharing of actual caramelised mushrooms ... might have to try both of these - sweet & savoury! ;-)

Ganga - that makes a lot more sense! I couldn't understand how cookies were used in a mushroom dish.

The picture of the cookies on the Women's Weekly Food site look yummy. The butternut snap cookies are available on Amazon. I may have to try the recipe. ;->
