Several weeks ago random recipes from The Silver Palate cookbook have been appearing in mybookshelf new recipe listWhy is this happening. I surely did not change a thing .

Where is this 'new recipe' list?  When I click on My Bookshelf, I see a link for 'recipes', but none for 'new recipes.'

DJM - you have The Silver Palate Cookbook and The Silver Palate Good Times Cookbook on your Bookshelf. If you don't own these books, you can remove them by going to the Books tab on My Bookshelf, search by Silver Palate and click the x on the right of the book title.

@Laura - I think DJM is referring to 'Recipes' under 'My Bookshelf'; by default, the recipes appear with the most recently added at the top.

@Jane - DJM's question is why are Silver Palate recipes appearing now, since the book has been indexed for a long time.  I believe that the answer is that page numbers are being added, and possibly some revision to the indexing (much has changed since the earliest books in the EYB Library were indexed, and a close look can motivate re-indexing).

I had noticed the same thing as DJM, and went to look at the recipes in the book view of Silver Palate; at that point the page numbering had gotten to about page 220, with subsequent recipes page-numberless.  Edits by pro indexers to already-indexed recipes appear as they are made, not all at once like indexing by members that's released after review.

@ellabee is absolutely correct; one of our experienced member-indexers is presently adding page numbers and doing some minor editing to bring the Silver Palate index up to date (it was indexed back in 2008). Since the Silver Palate index is already up on EYB, any changes made to the indexed recipes go "live" immediately, which makes them show up at the top of your Bookshelf/Recipes when it's sorted by the default "Recently Added".

Thanks Deborah and Ellabee for the detective work. This a.m. Many many recipes from Silver Palate appeared in my list . Weird, but question answered.

Actually, we've figured out the real reason "new recipes" from Silver Palate are appearing -- the member indexer who's adding the page numbers is also discovering recipes that were missed in the original index, so those are the ones displaying at the top of the Library/Recipes as she adds them to the index. The existing indexed recipes don't show up as "Recently Added", even if there are changes/edits.

Well that is a lot of recipes missed by the original indexer, there are more than 50 showing at this minute.

I think the reason there are so many missed recipes is that most are variations and How-to "recipes." Back when this book was indexed, How-to wasn't a Recipe Type yet and recipes with variations got an EYB Note "See recipe for variations" instead of being indexed individually. It's great that the member indexer is doing such a thorough update.

There are also quite a few "sidebar" recipes, some of them suggestions for using other recipes in the book or variations on a theme as Christine mentioned -- e.g., 15 Buffet sandwiches -- that were not indexed the first time around.
