It would be great if there was a way to create a wishlist of cookbooks to get without adding them to our database. There are so many great cookbooks coming out and it's hard to keep track of them all! As they are being featured or discovered it would be great to put them into a wishlist.

Also, it would be great if we could check a box or "like" a post in the forum without commenting so we can follow it/ the topic.

The wishlist feature is on our development to-do list. Now we have a couple of big development projects out the way (responsive design and the server upgrade) we are starting to work on new features again so you will see some exciting new developments in the next couple of months.

Our Forum is a bought-in tool so I will need to find out if we can add a "follow"feature. In the meantime, one solution is to create a Bookmarks folder on your browser called EYB Forum and bookmark every topic you want to follow.

If you click on Options on the far right of the green bar that highlights the title of the forum thread, an option to "Watch topic" will pop up. If you click on it, it says you will get notifications of new posts. I have not tried it before though, so I'm not sure how exactly you will be notified. I am going to try it on this thread and report back...

OK, so if you watch the topic, you will get email notifiations to the email address associated with your EYB account when there are new posts on the thread you are watching. Hope that helps!

Something I would like to see is the "add ingredients from previous recipe" option that is on the regular indexing form, on the the "add a personal recipe" form. I am indexing manufacturer cookbooks and manuals for my appliances, and little non-ISBN booklets I have into my personal recipes, and that feature would be quite useful since those kind of documents often have just small variations between recipes.

Another wish - while you are looking into forum options - how about a spell-checker for forum posts? For some reason I can't figure out, or fix, the font size while typing in the forum is quite small on my monitor (like 6 pt), and it's hard to see errors. I use "preview" which brings it up to a good size, but if there are any typos, or changes I find myself leaning way in to find my place to make changes. Sometimes I have to go back and forth a number of times to get my thoughts organized the way I want them in the post. I often give up and write my posts in a separate text editor and copy them into the forum posting box when I'm done. I don't know if others have this font size issue, I use a Chromium browser on an Ubuntu system, so it's possible it's just some Ubuntu weirdness.

Oh, and an "edit" option on our blog comments would be nice.

Thanks :)

I would like to see New Year's Day or even New Year Holiday/Celebration added as an occasion. There are a number of Japanese recipes that I make for New Year's Day and it'd be nice to be able to run an occasion search (I currently use the bookmark feature). And although the New Year celebration is at a different time, this would be a nice addition for Chinese New Year recipes too.

I'd also love a way to communicate with other members more easily. There have been many times I've read a note on a recipe like "not as good as my go-to recipe" and wanted to ask the member, "what is your go-to recipe." Currently, I can post a note under the same recipe or create a new topic under the forums and hope that the member sees the note/forum. I understand that not every member would be interested in this feature, but perhaps an opt-in or opt-out option could be added. Thank you.

I would love to filter on recipe searches by type of cooking method (i.e. Roasting, baking, barbecuing, etc.) so that I can narrow down my searches by the method I want use to cook. This was one of my favorite features on Epicurious and I find I really miss it when searching for recipes on EYB. I try to work around this by adding the cooking method along with the ingredient when I do my searches.

Any plans for a smart phone app?

Also, a way to sort cookbooks contents to find recipes available online.  That way, if I'm interested in a cookbook I can quickly find recipes to try first.

annmartina, this spring EYB switched to a "responsive design" format, which means that the website displays and functions across any device (computers, tablets, smartphones, etc.) and browser, so there's no longer a need for a specific phone app. Here's a post on the EYB blog that explains responsive design. Give it a try on your phone!

As for your second request, it already exists! When you're in the EYB Library/Books (or My Bookshelf/Books), click on the title of the book you're interested in to go to the Book Details page. Underneath the line of Recipes/Notes/Reviews... tabs, you'll see "Search this book for Recipes". Clicking on that link takes you to the Recipes search page, where you can use the Only Show... filters to select only Online Recipes, if any, in that book. You can also go directly to Recipes from the EYB Library or My Bookshelf to search for books (and magazines) and filter on those containing Online Recipes, and even Videos.

I am not sure if someone has asked this before.  But is there a way to filter on a Book bookmark as well as a Recipe Bookmark?  For example;  I have all of my Bobby Flay cookbooks on one bookmark;  and I would like to filter all of my Flay books and all of the recipes I have made at the same time?  Is this currently possible.  When I try to do this it turns off the other filter and doesn't let me choose two things.  Thanks

Jules,

There is some discussion about the bookmark filters turning off on the last page of this thread:

JulesLP - at present you can only use one bookmark at a time. It is on our development to-do list to improve the functionality of bookmarks.

I had no idea this can be done.  I tried it and it works.  Thanks.

Yes! I would love to be able to choose multiple bookmarks, and also to be able to choose an "or" function instead of just an "and" function for filters. eg. Cooking for a crowd, OR entertaining that uses peas (or whatever), rather than running two different searches.
