New feature? Feed of Notes / Reviews on books & recipes on My Bookshelf   Go to last post Go to last unread

Tonight I noticed that there's an addition to the choices on the 'My Bookshelf' dropdown menu:  Notes/Reviews.  It shows notes newest to oldest on recipes and books that are on my Bookshelf.

Excellent!

As it happens, I added a Note to a book today, and it was the one at the top of the list, so for a moment I thought this was a list of just my Notes, newest to oldest, the same as looking at my profile.  Then I realized it's all Notes pertaining to my Bookshelf holdings, a tailored version of the big Notes feed in the Library menus.

Another encouraging aspect was that this note of mine at the top of the list was one I'd made private, and I was able to see it.  To my delight, this is now true in the profile, too.  Yay!

However, it gave me a slight turn because there was no little yellow lock symbol to indicate 'private note'; I was reassured to see that the 'private' symbol was there when I went to the Notes for that book. It would be ideal if private notes in My Bookshelf and my profile would still display the lock symbol as they do when viewed from a single recipe or book page.  I'm assuming this feature/bug fix is still in process, along with others, so maybe that's the plan in any case.

Just wanted to cheer you on; thanks!

Really enjoying the new Notes/Reviews feed tailored to My Bookshelf, but want to re-highlight my request that private Notes be marked with the same little yellow lock symbol that they have when seen in a Book or Recipe view.  It helps reassure users that they've remained private.  Thanks in advance!

ellabee - you can be assured that your private notes are only seen by you (that was thoroughly tested). But I have added to our developer's tasks that he adds a symbol.

Many thanks!

Edited to add:

Unfortunately there may be bugs in the new feature.  In reading through the Library Notes stream, I've noticed at least five notes on books on My Bookshelf that aren't showing up in my Bookshelf Notes.  As a test, I've added private notes to several of those same recipes, and those notes show up promptly in both places.  A good incentive to keep looking at Library Notes, but not happy news about the Bookshelf feature.

If it helps in investigating, some notes in question were:

tfreedma and barbarajane on Corn chowder with new potatoes, golden peppers, and basil

Rutabaga on Overnight white bread and on Shortcake with summer fruit

yassima on Bubble-top brioches

TrishaCP on Peach crumble

ryonafaith on Gyudon from Serious Eats (first blog example spotted)

I don't imagine I'm the only member for whom this is true, so if anyone reading this can check the two feeds to confirm a couple of examples, that would be good.  The more cookbooks on your Bookshelf, the more likely you are to be able to spot an occurrence of the bug.

I notice that the note from Tfreedma 31 August about corn chowder is missing from the list of notes when I go to the notes in dropdown of my bookshelf. The note does appear if I go the book on my bookshelf and look throigh the notes there.

Thanks for letting us know - there is definitely an issue with some Notes not showing. Our developer is looking at it and we'll get it resolved as soon as possible.

This bug is now fixed - you should now see all the Notes and Reviews from the Books, Magazines, Blogs and Recipes on your Bookshelf.

You can also now see more clearly which of your Notes are your personal ones - you'll see a little yellow lock at the beginning of the Note. Thanks for this suggestion Ellabee and for letting us know about this bug.
