For anyone who was a fan and loyal customer of Jessica's Biscuit, which in later years evolved into ecookbooks.com, Dave Strymish posted on his Facebook page today that they have shut down.

I was a frequent customer for many years, much preferring their service over Amazon for cookbooks.  They were in business for 34 years, predating the web, and grew from a paper catalog into one of the most respected online cookbook stores.  It's sad for those of us that used to love browsing their special deals and clearance pages.  There was always a special bonus with an order - free books, free coffee, free magazines - and free shipping.  Dave posted that he is opening a microbrewery.

I'm sad..........

Funnily enough, when we started EYB we tried to use Jessica's Biscuit as our partner for book sales. I live near to their offices and I had several meetings with them. But they could never get their affiliate links to work and we realized fairly quickly that we needed a much larger catalog than they had (I think they had around 14,000 cookbooks listed and the EYB Library is now almost ten times that).

Dave Strymish was part of the family who owned New England Mobile Book Fair in Newton MA and I think he got a good deal on the premises.  When the business was sold a couple of years ago the new owner didn't buy Jessica's Biscuit so I imagine they had to get market-rate premises and the business would have became much harder after that.

It's been two years, but I'm glad I finally found this place to mourn Jessica's Biscuit :,(

I too am still mourning!

I have been using local indie bookstores, Strand Books, alibris, Kitchen Arts and Letters and Barnes and Noble as alternatives to Amazon.  But Jessica's Biscuit was the best!
