It would be of use to me to have Publisher as a possible filter - I use it to see if any of my favorite series have new volumes.

It would be of use to me to be able to filter for dead-tree editions only. I can get e-book only but I want without e-books.

This may be a hard one to have as a filter as we have 18,372 publishers in our database (there is some duplication as the publisher names have slight variations in the data that comes in from Amazon). I also don't think we should add publisher as a search field - this would slow down search results for all members while providing a benefit to very few members.

If there are series names you would like added to books in a series, let us know and we can do that for you.

As a librarian, I would caution against filtering by publisher. Publishers change their names constantly and have multiple variations. (Harper, HarperCollins, HarperSanFrancisco, Harper San Francisco, Harper Ebooks is one example.) Publishers are also frequently merging/being acquired/being sold to other publishers. Sometimes the original publisher name continues as "an imprint of...." but you can never guarantee how Amazon (or your local library) will input the publisher's data into their system. This would be a never-ending frustration for EYB's database management.

However, book series are fairly consistent. Series were traditionally managed by the U.S. Library of Congress (and the British Library, Library & Archives Canada, National Library of Australia, etc.), so there is more standardization.

There are three series I am currently trying to complete/watching for new releases:

Another series that I would find helpful in the near future is:

mjes, I looked into the four book series you mentioned. I was able to add "Knopf Cooks American Series" to the titles of most of the books in that series. However, in the case of two of the books -- Jewish Cooking in America and Savoring the Seasons of the Northern Heartland, both indexed on EYB -- the Knopf edition is linked to the non-Knopf ISBN we indexed, so I'm unable to add the series name to the master/indexed book's title. Unlinking editions is sometimes problematic and can cause the unlinked book to become "stuck" in the system, so untangling those two books to add the series title and then copy the indexes over could be time-consuming; just adding the series information to the 13 other books took the better part of a morning.

The other three series encompass a very large number of books: the Edible series has 75 titles, the American Antiquarian Cookbook Collection contains 100 titles, and the American Palate series lists 230 titles. All of the Edible Series volumes appear to be in EYB, so I'll work on adding the series information over time. In the meantime, since all of the Edible Series books contain the subtitle "A Global History", you could run that search and create an EYB Bookmark to identify all the titles in the series. You could do the same for the American Antiquarian Cookbook and American Palate series, but you'd have to search the individual book titles to find and bookmark those volumes that are in the EYB Library in the series format you're interested in.

Thank you Deborah. I know it is a real hassle to add the series and wish Amazon was more consistent. Unfortunately, with their 3rd party vendors, that is not going to happen. I wish there were a way for me to mark the books (perhaps a tag?) that would allow you to access the books quickly. I'm certainly willing to do the work but it doesn't appear that I can add tags to books I do not own.
