Hello.  New member, so I'm sorry if this has been asked & answered before - I couldn't see how to search the topics!

I'm trying to search my own books for goat - as in the meat.  I get results for goat's cheese as well.  I've tried "goat", but that doesn't work.  I've tried filtering for main course, but still get the cheese.  I've also tried goat meat, but get just one result when I know there are several. 

I expect I'll have the same problem when I search for heart - meat rather than celery etc.

Any suggestions, please?

Go to ingredient filter for Meat and under Meat, Other Meat since goat is not listed.  Then go back to search  and type in goat.  I just pulled up over 600 recipes.

You can also search using Boolean terms.  I am facing a glut of delicious figs, looking for how to use them.  A huge number of recipes call for dried figs...not what I want right now.  So I search for "figs -dried".  That's figs >space> (minus)the next term.  You can ask for peppers -green, chicken -fried, or even chicken +fried.  

Thank you for replying, but I can't get that to work.  If I put in goat -cheese, I still get all the cheese recipes as well.  Strangely, peppers -green works !

There are some search peculiarities because of linked ingredients. Because a search by one ingredient includes all results with the linked ingredients you can get results that seem odd when using word search exclusions. For that reason we don't recommend Boolean searches. A better goat search would be to use the filters to exclude goat cheese, goat milk and goat yogurt - this is the results of that search in the Library https://www.eatyourbooks...;f_-ingredient_group=852 . You exclude filters by selecting them then clicking the + to change it to a -. This is explained further in Help.

I didn't know if I should start a new thread or hijack this one, but I'm also having a searching problem. I was searching the EYB library tonight by category and am getting an odd result. Let me explain. So I go into Library/Books, which currently gives 157,945 results. Then I clicked on + Nutrition in the Filter By section, and it shows: Vegan (2). But there are way more than two vegan books on EYB. But the only two that are showing in the category are Ageless Vegan and Epic Vegan Instant Pot Cooking.

So then I thought that maybe all of the vegan books on EYB just aren't classified as such. So I searched on the keyword "vegan," and I see a whole list of 1,471 titles, most of which appear to be categorized correctly. So why am I not seeing all of those titles when I filter by category? I didn't have any other filters applied. Unless there's a duplicate. Is vegan also a subcategory under something else besides Nutrition?

Well, I've partially answered my own question, as I see the category of vegan also exists under Diets. I guess I'm confused as to why there's a Filter By section and a Browse section. Why are there two different sections? EYB searching is still a bit mysterious to me.

whitewoods - those two books with the Vegan tag added under nutrition was an error and I have now corrected it.  Now there are no books with the tag, Vegan will not appear as an option under Nutition. All vegan books appear under Book types / Eating Styles / Vegan and there are 912 Vegan books  with that tag in the Library (and 5,225 Vegetarian tagged books).

I can see there is an issue with Vegan books not having the Vegan tag applied, which we will get onto correcting. There are far too many of them. We import our books data from Amazon and their tags are imported into our Library database - so if they don't tag them, we haven't got the tags. Unless we do a manual correction, which we will now do.
