As some notes and forum post bounce around my brain wishing that I found out what happened next, it occurred to me that one way to find out would be encouraging occassional guest blogs e.g.

  • after learning to make Chinese noodles from a step-mother, what was learned and what cookbooks would you now recommend to others who don't have a Chinese step-mother

  • after substituting beef for reindeer, bluesberries for bilberries etc. what did you learn about Scandinavian recipes and which translate into American ingredients well

  • okay. You went to Egypt. Now what do you think about the Egyptian soup cook book

  • yeah, yeah, you've nicely indexed the German, Spanish, Japenese cookbooks ... what can you tell others about the cookbook scene in that language

  • so you built an annotated bibliography of Julia Child, Anthony Bourdain, Victor Pelligrini, James Beard, or a restaurant or an ingredient ... care to share?

Some of these ideas might work, some might not, others with a better pulse on the community might have much better ideas. But I know that at least one person (me) would enjoy an occassional blog entry from members of the EYB community.

Great idea! I'm sure there are many things we could be learning from each other. Those all sound like interesting ideas.
And it would balance out all the posts about giveaways and digital books that I now ignore.

I love this idea. I have a friend who introduced me to EYB who travels around the world in caravan with a small group of like minded people often for 6-12 months at a time. She will be returning to Australia soon after spending 6 months throughout Africa. This woman can write being a journalist first and later an editor. And she loves to cook. I am sure she would contribute some interesting food related posts.
