Will EYB allow users to post images in the HEIC format? It looks like all Apple products now take pictures in the HEIC format by default.

Currently you can change this default in the "Settings", but HEIC/HEIF is a format that most devices have moved. Thank you.

I will need to check with our developers so cannot answer right now - hopefully on Monday.

Hi Kzafarullah,

My household doesn't have iPhones, but we do have older Macs as well as Linux machines, so I googled HEIC.  I found this.  It might be useful in general, until the rest of the digital world adds HEIC. Now I have to find an application that will let me convert HEIC, since I am sure I will be getting them from people.  So I, at least, am glad of your "head's up"

Based on the article Zephy linked to I don't think there is any issue uploading photos in HEIC format. It turns out I have been taking HEIC photos on my phone camera for a long time and uploading them on EYB without any problem. I'm sure this applies to all other members using iPhones to take their recipe photos. So I don't think it is anything to worry about. But maybe we will add HEIC to the allowed formats on the upload form to avoid any confusion.

On my MacBook I export any photos by clicking file, then export and saving as a jpg/jpeg on my desktop.  It's not quite a easy from my iPhone, but I've just tried it and it worked: in the photo you want to export click the box with the arrow coming out of the top of it and then select Save to Files in the list that appears (you'll need to scroll down), then after saving it somewhere, find it and change the file extension to .jpg - it came up with a box asking me if I wanted to replace .heck with .jpg and that was it.  Quite clunky but doable if you have somewhere to save the photo to.

It's odd because my phone is set to HEIC format but if I email a photo from my phone it arrives as JPEG. And if I upload directly from my phone to EYB it uploads fine without needing any conversion. It seems the HEIC images are automatically getting converted when exporting outside the Apple system i.e. when I email them or upload to EYB. This article on an Apple forum says it happens but not how. This article on How to Geek says it will automatically convert to JPEG when emailing or uploading on an app so I think you are all good - nothing needs to change for uploading photos on EYB. Though if anyone does experience a problem, please let us know.
