Excited to hear this!

thank you! Currently I use a number generator website as a random sorter, so if I have, say, 46 pages of chicken salad recipes in My Bookshelf, a number generator will reveal on which page I will choose a recipe. So if the number generator says 12, I type that into the URL: https://www.eatyourbooks...elf/12?q=chicken%20salad
I guess this seems kind of crazy, but I find it fun and a challenge. An EYB random sorter will be faster, easier, more fun. And more random.

I am very excited. Thank you Jane.

Want to add that as another user who uses a random number generator, I'm also excited about this feature.

Woohoo! Can’t wait for this feature.

Like Jane initially, I had real trouble understanding the appeal of the random sort. Pretty sure in my case it's a combination of being a stodgy cook (not wanting to cook new things all that often), finding it pretty easy to make decisions, and a high tolerance for plowing through lists. But now I'm looking forward to a feature I would have thought silly before. I do need a push to make more new dishes, and this could be it!

In the meantime, may I steer any interested cooks towards Random.org. as a tool that could be useful.

Open both Eat Your Books and Random.org

On random.org, select List Randomiser from the menu. On this page is a box in which to paste a list. This could be a list typed directly into the box, but it is also possible to copy and paste from EYB

Go to EYB and select an indexed cookbook and then choose 'search this book for recipes'. Select next the view that shows you titles only, no thumbnails. This will display up to 200 recipe titles.

Use Control+A to select all (the page will be covered in blue highlighting) and then Control+C to copy all that to the clipboard.

Go back to Random.org and paste your recipe list in "Part 1: Enter List Items" using the command Control+V. You should get everything from the EYB page in the box, all the recipe titles along with some unwanted stuff that was also caught by 'select all'. The box is editable, so you can scroll along and delete anything you dont need, or you can be lazy like me and just put up with and ignore the extra stuff when the results are shown.

When all the recipe titles are pasted it is time for "Part 2: Go." Hit the randomize button and see all the recipe titles in random order.
