Hey, come on guys.  Anybody watching the reviews?  I read EYB every day and the 15 available reviews are one of the highlights.  I have purchased several books after reading interesting experiences and opinions in this section.  Today 14 of 15 available segments were by one person obviously unaware that there is a way to make notes personal and not site-wide.  I believe EYB is working on making older notes (beyond the 15 now available at any given time).  How far in the future is this option?

Well said Rivergait.

I've noticed this before as well, thankfully just not as many notes entered at the same time. Hopefully EYB staff will start reaching out to folks doing this and let them know about the "Make this note personal" option.

In the recent case the member has written 25 notes over time and almost all the others are the same. Since they have 125 books on their shelf, we'll have more of the same notes to come I suspect.

Ditto what you say rivergait. I read the notes every day and noticed this . . .

I get so much out of other people's notes! Not so much when they are in a secret code.

I agree!  I love the scrolling notes on the home page and try to check in frequently so I don't miss any -- I've discovered a lot of great recipes that way.  I do wish that more people would use the Personal Note function to post notes that are relevant only to them. I find it to be a very useful feature of the website.

Likewise, I wish more people would use the 'Report an Error' function rather than posting about errors in Notes.  It seems that errors that are reported in Notes are not noticed and therefore not corrected, whereas they are always immediately corrected when reported in the 'Report an Error' link.

The only way to fix the issue that I can think of would be to flip it so a note would be personal unless you choose to make it public- rather than the de facto status being a public note. You might lose notes from the less frequent posters though.

Laura, I agree about wishing more people used the "report an error" function and I also concur that EYB is on it right away when an error is flagged through that process. I think that requesting error fixes in notes will continue though because it is much less easy to navigate to the "report an error" function than it is to the "write a note" function.

I agree with everyone else about the notes that mean nothing to the EYB community.  But I am so glad to find out about the "Report Error" function.  In the past, I just emailed EYB about errors I found.  I must admit that it just took me a bit of searching to find the "Report Error" tab even with TrishaCP's information.  Maybe that tab should be in bold and red.  I am afraid that the tiny pale gray print just wasn't visible to me until I seriously and carefully scrolled through a few pages hunting for it.  For anyone else who can't find it, it is at the very bottom of each page below the icons for Pinterest, Twitter and Facebook and in the far right corner.  I think part of my problem in finding it was not scrolling far enough down to see it.

I think it is both finding the error link AND the fact that it is more time-consuming than writing a note.  You are basically still writing an email to EYB, needing to provide all of your contact information, needing to link to the recipe in question, etc.  None of that is terribly difficult or anything, but it is so much easier to just write a note and assume/hope someone will see it, especially when you are already going out of your way and you have no obligation to say anything anyway.  So I really appreciate when people do report errors the correct way.

Anytime you notice an indexing-related error, please feel free to email me directly: [email protected].  Jane forwards any indexing-related "Report an Error" emails to me anyway as I don't access that part of the system.

It's not difficult to report an error.. not sure why people would prefer notes! Same degree of effort required. Only difference is the author gets "immediacy"  of seeing the note on the home page.  That may or may not mean that EYB picks it up. Notes, in my view, are for sharing thoughts on recipes ...

But I have noticed that the "star" rating can almost be generated without intention!

I have contacted that member and informed them about the private notes option.  I have also gone through all their Notes and made them private. I always do this if I notice anyone adding Notes that are not of interest to other members.

I do try to keep an eye on the daily Notes but I've been traveling a lot recently and things have possibly slipped through.  Email is always the best way to inform me of anything that needs fixed on the site.  The easiest email link to use is the Contact link at top right - the "Report an Error" link at the bottom comes through to the same place.
