Hello

I am a French woman living in London and love the idea of this site - I used to spend so much time going through my enormous collection of recipe books and magasines to find what I could do with the contents of my fridge.

I have English and French cookbooks because I live between Paris and London - born and raised in Paris though and looking (forward) to go back one of these days - but for the moment my work takes me to London but doing a project in Paris until the end of the year... I know, it is very confusing.

Any other French connections? I am not sure because none of my French cookbooks are indexed (though I will get it going little by little)

Cheers

Agnès

Bound to be some French connections somewhere! Welcome onboard!

There are a lot of French cookbooks though (too many probably :)

Though to my dismay they are books written directly in English and not translations of French books.
Which is a shame because I tend to buy French cookbooks directly in French and disregard the French books written by English chefs - I didn't mind at first but then a lot of them twist the recipe and it exasperates me in a very French reaction (GRRR NO THIS IS NOT HOW YOU MAKE TRUFFADE :) :) :)
So I just stopped buying them !

And in English I tend to buy English or international cookbooks, like Italian/American, or English Countryside, English or American Bakery or Thaï for instance. Or the Hairy Bikers, I love them.

Which means I have to index everything in my French library :)

Welcome on board!  Love the international nature of this place.

I have the same problem too with my Japanese cookbooks but it's ok since this site is English speaking site.  There are many 2nd hand bookstores in Japan and I tend to buy Japanese cookbooks either online or when I'm in Japan.  Although Amazon Japan will ship books directly to US address, 2nd hand stores will not and I had to establish a 3rd party shipping company address which turned out really good for my needs.  I purchase lots of foods and books directly from Japan shipped to my 3rd party shipping company address with my name and they forward the packages (bundled if I like) to me.

OMG that's dedication :) ...

Of course, I am lucky bc France and England are quite close so most of things are imported or else I just call any French library, order my books and either ask my mum or someone to ship it, or simply take the train over :) But Japan is pretty far away !

I would love to know more about Japanese cooking - I mean real Japanese cooking, not occidental versions : do you have any books that you could recommend (just not in Japanese :) :)
