Adding ebook editions to my Bookshelf   Go to last post Go to last unread

Over the past several months I have begun to use (and purchase) ebooks more and more.  They take no shelf space and all are easily found and read on my iBook as it sits on its stand on my kitchen counter.  EYB lets you specify ebooks in some searches, so I would like to use the ebook ISBN when importing my new purchases into my Bookshelf.  Unfortunately, while the library may know about the print edition of a book, it is not uncommon for the ebook ISBN to be unknown to the EYB database.  Even after many weeks, the missing ISBNs have not been added to the library.  Is there something I can do to help you add these missing ISBNs to the database?

eBooks are often "hidden" as they are linked to the indexed master print edition. Click the links icon on any book and all the ISBN numbers for the linked books can be seen. Click the ISBN you own and click +Bookshelf to add it to your Bookshelf.

An alternative way to add any books (print or digital) that you cannot find in the Library is to import the ISBN numbers. The Import Books page is linked from the My Bookshelf tab. If the book is already in the Library it gets added to your Bookshelf immediately. If not, we will try to retrieve the data from Amazon. In the case of eBooks this may not work since Amazon only lists Kindle editions. If your eBooks are not Kindle, email us the ISBN numbers and we will add them for you.

Because most of my ebooks are Kindle, I find it's easiest to add a bookmark "ebooks" to the hardcopy version if there is no ebook version linked to it. I also have this bookmark on the actual ebook versions and then I just use my bookmark as a filter rather than the official ebook filter.

Hi Jane,

Thanks for responding to this.  All of the ebooks were purchased from Amazon and yes, I tried to add them to my bookshelf by using the import function after first checking for the links associated with the print edition.  In all cases I have used the electronic edition ISBN numbers found in the ebooks' copyright pages.  What is the best email to use to email a list to you?

There is a Contact link at top right which produces an email form. Or if you prefer to email us yourself so you have a record of the email, the address is [email protected].

I should also have mentioned, if anyone has an eBook which is not linked to an indexed book, again just email us and we will link it so the recipes become part of your searches. In many cases the eBook came out some time after we indexed the book.

Can you add a filter so that I can also just see my print books?  I need a way to differentiate, and since the filter is already there for show ebooks, I was hoping it would be a simple matter to add a filter to show only print books?

debpiper - that isn't something you can do currently. If it is important to you, the best way would be to add Bookmarks for Print books and eBooks then when you search you can select just those books to search in.
