I recommended that book to a friend just last week! Growing up, my father was the cook in the family and that was the only cookbook he ever referenced. We called it "The Jennie Grossinger Cookbook." Many of the receipes are my old family recipes, since she was of Hungarian/Czechoslovakian descent as were all four of my grandparents. Each of the girls in my family receoved a copy of the Jennie Grosinger Cookbook from my parents (I think I have two copies: a paperback which is falling apart and a hardcover). My brother was never interested in cooking, so he didn't get a copy.

The book may be out of print, but it is available in used bookstores online. I shared a link to it last week.

I read in the New York Times that at a certain cookbook store, the most requested cookbook was that very cookbook.

Just checked: you can order a mass-market pbk from Amazon or B&N, and an ebook from Kindle, Nook, GPB, or Kobo. There may be other possibilities.


If you want to make chopped liver the Grossinger way, go to the Amazon page. "Vegetarian chopped liver" should be "parve chopped liver," since the recipe calls for sardines.
