I'm exploring this site in order to determine if I want to subscribe.  I like the concept, especially with the idea that I could consolidate all my recipes from various sources in one spot.   However, there doesn't appear to be a way to consolidate all the recipes you have stored in various recipe book applications.  For example, I use Pepperplate.  I realize that you can import personal recipes, but the process seems to be very laborious.   It would be useful if there was a way to index personal repositories of recipes that do not involve doing them one at a time.

MartineV - I'm afraid what you are asking for is much more complex than it may seem. EYB is a database - every ingredient, recipe type, ethnicity, etc is a separate entry in the database. So if you want to import recipes you have stored somewhere else such as Pepperplate, every piece of data there has to be mapped to the relevant piece of data on EYB. This can be done but it is complicated and open to errors. It's not like just copying and pasting a text file.

When creating personal recipes you can add as much or as little information as you want, since only you will see it. If you find adding the main ingredients and category tags laborious then just add the recipe tile, which you should be able to copy and paste from Pepperplate. You can also add the URL for the recipe source in the Online URL field. Of course this will be less useful in your searches since only the recipe title is searched, but that may be enough for you.

Thank you for the answer.  How about a method for some sort of batch entry method for personal recipes, contained in let's say, an CSV file.  This way it would be up to us to provide the necessary information in the correct format.  That might be a solution.

I'm not sure how entering the data into a csv format and then importing it is any different than entering the data into the the EYB indexing form in personal recipes. Also, if the recipes are available online then you can use our Bookmarklet - explained here in Help - which will import some of the data, at a minimum the recipe title. The recipe gets added to the EYB Library and your Bookshelf, or if it is already in the Library, it gets added to your Bookshelf. Maybe try out a few of your favorite recipes and see how easy it is.

I'm new to EYB, and am loving it.  But, I have the same question.

I have my personal recipes in Mastercook.  I've tried using Bookmarklet, but appears it isn't allowing me to paste from this source (I can do it manually).  The value of a CSV file would be that rather than needing to manually copy over hundreds of titles, I could produce an export in 5 minutes and be done.

I get the complexity of needing to maintain the integrity of the database - but, even if I could just import titles and source, it would give me a base with which to then update other data.  I see the post is a couple years old.  I don't know if any progress has been made here

Welcome Risneor! I'm afraid we still do not have a way for you to import your own recipe data. We are however currently working on improving the automation of our data imports so it is possible that we will be able to extend that to imports from csv files. It's not something that will happen in the next few months though.

OK - thanks Jane.  I run a large eComm channel.  I don't understand the complexity of this, but also recognize that you probably have a list of enhancements a mile long.  Appreciate the quick response.
