Well done to EYB and its pro-indexers and member indexers - now over 9,000 books indexed .. with the most popular book appearing on 8,337 shelves! OK that's only 5% of the 159, 918 listed books.. but what a resource! Happy to have found it (and now 90% of my books are indexed!).

Happy Christmas folks!

Thank you Deb. It is indeed an amazing achievement by all our indexers - roll on 10,000!

Wow.......I am trying to formulate my thoughts here. A few years ago I "joined" Pinterest....and as we say in this household, I "lost Pinterest" pretty quickly. I tried a cookbook site that required a facebook acct - again , I bailed fairly quickly on that. And now of course here I am. I drink my early morning coffee reading comments and sit and read again during the "evening couch under a blanket" session. I really try to make at least 3 new things from my books per week, often passing over a current favorite to venture to a new place. Sometimes I discover a new winner and sometimes I just wish I had stayed with the original but it always triggers a discussion with Tim and I re what we did or didn't like about something and what I / we learned new about an ingredient / technique. I also am much better about using what is in my fridge / pantry - food waste has gone WAY down which is sometimes an issue when you shop & cook for 2. Keep on going EYB - you have changed the way I use my books & cook.

Ah the joys of being young. My older sister gave me my first real cookbook in 1956 (i'd been given a kids cookbook two years early but found it below my skills). I was purchasing books to cook for myself and 3 roommates by 1965 (managed to feed the four of us on $100 a month - a fact I was very proud of). So I have books that precede ISBN's without recognizing my addiction to prowling used bookstores. Net result, I don't even have 90% of my collection in EYB and only 30% of what is in EYB is indexed. But while I still rely on memory for the majority of my receipes (now which Roden book had the sweet potato salad I remember? or was it maybe by what's his name?), I truly appreciate the ease with which I can find ways to finish up ingredients in EYB ... well, most ingredients -- my ability to prowl ethnic grocery stories exceeds my ability to prowl used bookstores. Let's all get to indexing and hit the 10,000 mark!

About 75% of my books are indexed. The majority that are not are on very few bookshelves, including 2 books on 2 bookshelves. Surprisingly, some of my new books are unindexed including Tamar Adler’s new book and Jaques Pepin’s sweet little illustrated ‘Poulets et Legumes’

So I took a close look at my indexed vs unindexed titles and I sit at just under 80% indexed in my small (relative to many of the other members) collection.  The majority of the unindexed titles are in fact Canadian publications and really I guess the key is to improve my own member indexing output.  I am currently somewhat (okay - let's be honest - completely) stalled in my first attempt at indexing but I plan to get back at it over my upcoming holiday.  And with retirement looming this coming June, I hope to become a much better contributor in this respect.

English language books 46% unindexed :( but on positive note,  it is 54% indexed that I can now use :)

Congratulations, EYB! I was just curious, though ... is that 9000 individual titles? Or does that include multiple editions (paperback, hardcover, etc.) in the 9000? I think it's the former, but I wasn't totally sure.

It is 9,000 individual titles. Other editions are linked to the indexed book but do not count in the number. If all indexed editions were added together the count would be almost 22,000. Occasionally we have copied over recipes from one book to another, because the books have different titles so should not be linked, but that is rare.

I was so happy this morning to receive an email from EYB telling me that Good Housekeeping Cook's Year had been member indexed. I've had the book since it was first published in 1995 and love the seasonality of it. However with it only being on 20 bookshelves I didn't ever expect it to be indexed. Also, another GH book from the same era, Complete Book of Pasta has been member indexed in the last few months and that was only on 19 bookshelves.
So, a big thank you from me to whoever has indexed these 2 much loved books and to all indexers for their hard work.

(I have stalled on indexing my first book, however this has given me a much needed nudge to get back on track and get it done.)
