How to suggest magazines for indexing?   Go to last post Go to last unread

Thanks, Jane. No worries, that's what I figured. Since I wrote that message this morning I found a lot more copies of EatingWell from 2003-2012. I was able to catalog all the ones from 2009 on. So I have seven years in my bookshelf now. That's great!

Is it possible to Index VegNews? Thanks.

Is it possible to index the new Cooking Light Magazine? I could help index 2021 and 2022 from my library, but I do not have 2019 or 2020. Thank you!

Is it possible to add Mindfood Inseason?

Has anyone requested that Bake From Scratch be indexed? Also, is there a list somewhere of the magazines that are indexed?
#208 Posted : Monday, March 13, 2023 4:49:42 PM(UTC)

All issues of Bake From Scratch are indexed. Plus all the Bake From Scratch Special Issues. Plus all the Bake From Scratch cookbooks.

You see all magazines we have indexed by clicking the Magazines tab at the top, or under Library on a phone. There are 5,400 indexed magazines. Then click +Magazines under Browse on the right to see a list of all the indexed Magazines (you cannot do this on a phone). Click any magazine title to see all indexed issues.

Haven’t gone back through all 11 pages to see if I or someone else already asked….I’m a Susie Middleton fan and she is now an editor at the Vineyard Gazette and Martha’s Vineyard Magazine, which I follow. Abigail Johnson Dodge often contributes there too. Could you add the magazine to your list for indexing? Highly recommend all their cookbooks to anyone reading this!

Meant to add Cook the Vineyard is the Martha's Vineyard Magazine blog...And sixburnersue is Susie Middleton.

There are many hundreds of local magazines published around the world and it is not feasible for us to index all of them. We hope that members who love a local magazine might like to index the recipes themselves - they can more easily get hold of copies (or already own them) and they get the benefit of the recipe index for their own use. You can add magazines using Member Added Books, outlined here in Help. Although the Help details are for books, magazines can be added here and we will change the type to Magazine.

BTW Karen, if you want to search the Forum, there is a Search link at top right. You would then enter "Martha's Vineyard" in keywords, rather than having to wade through 11 pages of posts.

Thanks Jane... and yes I realized I could search after I posted 🙄

I don't subscribe or receive Martha's Vineyard magazine, I follow them and the blog cookthevineyard. The library has a long list of indexed blogs. Is there someone actually indexing each and every new post...that's mind boggling. I've never attempted indexing ....but would indexing a blog be the same as indexing a book?

I would love to see Pastry Arts magazine indexed.

Yes, Nikki indexes every new recipe added to the 83 blogs/websites/newspaper columns that we index. Some of them are now defunct though the recipes are still available so we leave the index up. We are much more selective now about which blogs we add since it is a commitment to keep indexing it for ever (or as long as the blog keeps adding new recipes).

Indexing a blog would be the same as indexing a book except that you would add the URL link and photo for every recipe. Though we don't recommend members index a blog unless they are prepared to keep indexing it themselves. Some bloggers in the past have suggested they would do that for their own blog but only one, Food Wine Travel With Roberta, has actually done so.

Hi! I'm a frequent EYB user, but have never ventured into Indexing. I just realized that I have some earlier editions of Cook's Country Magazine that aren't listed on the website at all (2011-2012, some 2009/2010), and I'm wondering how I would go about adding them. Is that something I'd have to request? Or could I do it myself? I've poked around here on the website but haven't seen anything pertaining to magazines specifically. Thanks so much!

arosfd - you add magazines using the Member Added Books feature, outlined here in Help. After you add the magazine you can request to index it just like you would request to index a book. I suggest before you request to index the magazine that you read through the Member Indexers Manual to make sure you understand the rules. It may seem like a lot to take in but much of it is common sense and Sydney will do a lot of hand-holding at the start.

I'd like to request the indexing of Vegan Food and Living. Thanks!
