Yes!!! Me too!

I second this - I'd love to build a few different menus and save them and revist. eg. Four course Italian feast with drinks, A weeks worth of dinners, A birthday party food planner. We could even share them with each other, and search each others, or see which menus a recipe has been added to. Bookmarks can sort of be used to do this now I suppose, with a bit of thought, but not the sharing part.

I also love the 'suggest a recipe' suggestion. I'd use that a lot.

This might not achieve everything that would be available with plantoeat, but EYB Bookmarks are very useful for grouping recipes for menus. I have lots of bookmarks of the form 'm.winter Indian', 'm.spring gluten-free', etc.  (The initial letter abbreviation keeps them listed together and easy to locate, since Bookmarks only display alphabetically.)

I find I really miss the social aspect of other cooking sites and would very much like to be able to comment on Notes from other members.

In addition, I would like to be able to see the newest Notes added beyone the 9 or so that are on the front page.  Is there some easy way to pull up Notes added by date?

We do have the "cooking together with ...." which has given some element of "social engagement".. but I do agree about easily searchable notes Beth

A wished-for feature has occurred to me before, so when the thought came again I wanted to make a note here:

It would be nice to be able to restrict a browsing session or search of books to 'Member Indexed' as you can 'Indexed'. There must be more than 500 now, and maybe getting on to a thousand?  At any rate, the case for doing this just gets stronger with each new book that's reviewed and released.

[Posting in this thread because it's the most recent one focused on substantive feature requests, but honestly I don't consider the Member Indexed filter a pie-in-the-sky request. It's a tweak, not major reworking.]

I know this is problematic (copyright issues), but I'd love to have quantities when using the Shopping List feature.  I've been burned in the past when using the mobile site and I think I have an ingredient at home, only to find out that I don't have enough (big difference between 1 lime and 3 limes).

I might be being dim, but what is the advantage of filtering for member indexed?

#29 Posted : Tuesday, April 21, 2015 1:55:05 PM(UTC)

One advantage is that it would give a count of the current number of Member-Indexed books; right now it's only possible to get a very rough estimate.  Another is that MI books are, generally speaking, much more idiosyncratic and specialized; sometimes it's fun to brows through a big grouping of that kind -- more like a library book sale <g> than a bookstore. They're much less likely to be books I already know about.

I have a lot of bookmarks and it takes a long time to scroll through and select one. Could this be streamlined? (Or am I doing something wrong)
#31 Posted : Tuesday, April 28, 2015 9:23:39 AM(UTC)

@vickster -- I experienced the same thing early on as my bookmark list grew. Because Bookmarks only display alphabetically, I began using a letter system to organize them.  As it's currently not possible to edit bookmark names, I hesitate to suggest changing your existing bookmarks (unless they only have a few items each), but something similar might help as you go forward.

My system for recipes is that bookmarks begin with c. for recipes in a specific cookbook that interest me (e-version of sticky notes); i. for recipes using a particular ingredient; r. for different versions of a given dish (slaw, bundt cakes, etc.); z. for grouping recipes in relation to my cooking with them (z.made being the longest, others being z.on deck, z.club picnic 2014, etc.), and m. for grouping recipes in menus (seasonal, ethnic themes, etc.).  The i. (ingredient-based) bookmarks are by far my biggest group.

The ability to edit names of Bookmarks would be a most welcome feature.  For now, the only way to do that is to create a new Bookmark, add each of the recipes from the original Bookmark (one at a time), then delete the original.

ellabee EYB is fortunate to have you here!  Your work-arounds are helpful and appreciated but I have to agree, we need to be able to edit our bookmarks and the feature is in need of improvement.  I seem to think we're due for a site enhancement so fingers crossed this is at the top of the list!!

My dream would include my paid recipe site, CooksIllustrator.com, in the search results and then integrate "Eat Your Books" with "Plan to Eat". That way I could search for recipes, plan them in my menu and build my shopping list for the week.

If I could only have one of those two wishes, it would be to integrate with "Plan to Eat".

As I was trying to find a recipe this morning from a specific author who has several cookbooks out I realized that I could not filter my search by author.  This would be a very helpful tool for those of us who have a number of different cookbooks by the same author. Frequently I will remember that the recipe I am seeking is by a certain author but can't remember which cookbook of theirs it came from.

hillsboroks - you can filter the recipes on your Bookshelf by author by entering the author name in quotes in the search box.  So say you know it is a Julia Child recipe but you cannot remember what book, enter "Julia Child" in the search box plus whatever other search criteria you need using the filters (or adding more search words in the search box) then you will only see Julia Child recipes that match what you want.

Thank you Jane!  This will be one tip that I will often.

I would love to see a more prominent link to how to report a site error (wrong ingredient, broken link, etc.). I have noticed that many folks add notes when they see something inaccurate, which is helpful, but not as good as fixing the mistake, especially when EYB is so prompt in addressing them when brought to their attention. So I try to report as many as I can, but the link is hard to find-I always have to spend some time searching.

TrishaCP - you can use any contact link to report an error you see - there is a "Contact" link at top right and a "Report an error" link at the bottom right on every page.  Both emails come through to the same place and as you say, we are constantly monitoring the emails and will make any corrections that members inform us of.

It's much better that we are informed by email about typos or broken links or suggestions for Recipe online links than adding them as a Note.  I do try to regularly check the Notes being added but if I'm overloaded (often!) or traveling (less often) I can easily miss a Note.

Absolutely agree there... an 'edit bookmark' function, please! :)

I would love to have a search function for my notes. I have just scrolled through 17 pages of notes to find THE tempeh recipe I was looking for. Since I have made and reviewed several tempeh recipes I just could not rememeber which one I was looking for.
