Food Allergies and Reactions   Go to last post Go to last unread

For those unfortunate souls with real food allergies and sensitivities, including me….Susie Middleton aka sixburnersue recently wrote a very informative post on her blog (substack) regarding her recent food allergy experience. Sorry, I’m not savvy enough to include a link here but I’m sure if you google it you’ll find it. I think you might have to register but you can be a free subscriber. It’s worth reading even if you don’t have an allergy yourself….you might be with someone who is or it could happen to you, unexpectedly any time. It did to me.

For anyone interested, this is Susie's Substack. You do need to subscribe to see the post but there is a free option. Karen, to add a link, you highlight the text you want to include the link, then in the toolbar above the text, click the link icon (3rd from the right) and insert the text in the top field, Link URL. If the link is off EYB (as this one is) change Target to 'Open in new window (_blank)'.

Thank you. Very good article. She outlined many points which were adressed by my allergist.  Like her, I have asthma and also went through monthly allergy shots in my younger years but I discontinued the shots thinking my nasal issues were behind me as I've gotten older.

I don't recall if there was any mention of cross pollination with  seasonality in her article.  I was told that melons might affect me more during Fall seasons due to ragweed pollens starting in late August.  I first noticed considerable scratchy throat from eating honeydew melons in early September.

With drug related allergic reactions, I've experienced both the life threatening immediate reaction kind  like complete throat closue and immediate drop in blood pressure as well as symptoms coming on after 24 hours like contrast dye and all those other intermediate time frame and symptoms from drugs.  Very scary.
