Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Aztec cookies

    • Ro_ on January 13, 2020

I used regular dark chocolate as I'm not fond of coffee flavour. These were very nice chocolate cookies, with a perfect cookie texture.

  • Pick 'n' mix rolls

    • Ro_ on January 09, 2023

I read this too quickly and ended up mixing all the ingredients in the first step. I followed the rest of the recipe leaving out the bit where you added the other ingredients and kneaded a lot, and suprisingly they came out fine (but I think I'd have had more puffiness if I'd followed strictly). I think they needed more salt. These were nice rolls though.

  • Little bridge rolls

    • Ro_ on January 07, 2021

Very nice little rolls. I did the second prove overnight, and was worried they hadn't risen much and would be very close, but in fact the texture was great and the crust was perfect - not too crusty, not too soft. My only regret is that I just ground in a bit of salt without measuring, and it wasn't enough. I'll make these again, great with soup or as the book suggests with pulled pork or something delicious inside, as alternatives to sliders for example.

  • Roast beef tartlets

    • Ro_ on January 09, 2023

These were easy and delicious. I would make again but in bite-size so they could be served as finger food, as I don't very often have cause to serve a "'starter" sized tart like this.

  • Divine chocolate layer cake

    • joneshayley on August 17, 2019

Lovely and relatively easy if time consuming- it’s soooo rich though- a chocolate lovers dream

Reviews about Recipes in this Book

  • Mary's treacle tart

    • Fuss Free Flavours

it’s stuck a little between a rock and a hard place in terms of assumptions of skill and experience. Treacle tart is pretty straightforward, so if you’ve made it before you don’t really need a recipe

Publishers Text

Twelve new amateur bakers are ready to rise to the "Great British Bake Off" challenge. While they don their aprons, adjust to their new ovens, and get used to baking in a tent, this book takes you through the challenges from the series and shows you how to achieve baking perfection. Throughout the book, Mary and Paul are on hand with expert advice and practical tips to help you create perfect cakes, biscuits, breads, pastries, pies, and teatime treats every time. Each chapter begins with a specific baking skill, which, once mastered, allows you to tackle Mary and Paul's technical challenges, as seen on the show, with confidence. There are over 120 recipes in this book, including traditional British bakes and imaginative twists using classic ingredients, as well as the best contestant recipes from the series. There is plenty to challenge keen bakers here, from brandy snaps to elaborate pastries, pavlovas to iced celebration cakes, and with a sensuous and yet practical design and full-color, step-by-step photography, this really will become the baking book that you will turn to for years to come. Includes metric measures and conversion chart.
