  • Warm ginger-peanut sauce

    • kateiscoooking on February 17, 2018

WOW! We absolutely loved this on pork tenderloin. I made a few changes - used extra crunchy peanut butter and teriyaki. Left out the onion powder. Used a spoon to mix so I'd not lose the crunchiness of the peanut butter. This will become a staple in our house!

  • Joe's shrimp salad

      Quick, easy, good.

  • Poppy seed dressing

    • BethNH on July 16, 2017

My husband suggested Spinach Salad for dinner and I decided we needed a homemade poppy seed dressing to top it. Normally, I use a mayonnaise based dressing that I got from my mother-in-law, but it's really much too sweet. A trip to the coop got me some poppy seeds and a quick search with EatYourBooks found this recipe for me. I was surprised that there weren't more recipes for poppy seed dressing in my numerous cookbooks. The other recipes I found used raw egg which I wasn't too keen on. This dressing comes together nicely in a blender and is sweetened by honey rather than sugar and flavored with onion powder and dry mustard. It's got a bit of a kick and is rather sweet - just like poppy seed dressing should be.

  • Red and black bean salad

    • dianev on February 24, 2015

A potluck staple--especially good for events with limited refrigeration. Zesty dressing brightens up the beans and provides great flavor.

Publishers Text

Socially inclined but time deprived? Want to see friends for dinner, but can't do more than order takeout or meet in a restaurant? Well, help is here.

Filled with 200 marvelous recipes and dozens of brilliant problem solvers, this is a complete game plan for having guests over (children included) without having to spend more than 20 minutes on a dish, or 20 minutes per cook-ahead phase. There are tips on saving time (buy peeled garlic, doctor supermarket potato salad with fresh chopped onions and paprika); sanity (tie the bottle opener to the cooler); and money (sangria costs less than wine).

But of course the genius of the book is in the recipes: Cajun Catfish Gumbo; Cabernet Pasta Sauce with Italian Sausage; Greek Stifado with Artichokes; and more. Plus plenty of homemade desserts that won't break the host, including Rocky Road Brownie Sundaes, Berkshires Blueberry Crisp, and Sunset Key Lime Pies.
