Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Oatmeal muffins

    • Lillibet on April 07, 2014

Heavier than your normal muffins but these are delicious, not too sweet and make a filling breakfast treat. I usually add some chocolate chips.

  • Cranberry orange bread

    • Rachaelsb on December 01, 2020

This is delicious. Very straight forward, nice orangy tang, really moist. Great tea cake or breakfast!!

    • kshell on November 02, 2025

Lovely little loaf cake. Has a bouncy crumb. Doubled the recipe and baked half without cranberries, and to the other half added a small grated carrot and some bloomed saffron (so... no cranberries anywhere, this was just a vehicle for me to use up OJ). Both cakes were good and both were done baking in 40 minutes. One was in a 9x5" pan, the other in a longer, skinnier pan. Maybe with the cranberries it takes longer, but start checking early!

  • Chocolate chip cookies

    • Rachaelsb on January 26, 2020

Great thin chocolate chip cookie. Really do need several inches apart on cookie sheet.

  • Magic cookie bars

    • yassoma on September 14, 2016

Very delicious, however no dessert IMO is worth 900 calories per square. Holy hell.

  • Traditional vanilla birthday cake

    • Rachaelsb on January 26, 2020

For those of us that prefer vanilla to chocolate!! this is it. These are incredible as cupcakes when paired with vanilla buttercream frosting. So moist and just the right vanilla sweet. Always my birthday request.

    • LaurenB on September 15, 2023

Taste was good and traditional. Messed up the blending so could have added to the dryness. Surprisingly reminded me of Magnolia Bakery (topped with the Traditional Vanilla Buttercream)

  • Coconut layer cake

    • LisaO on February 17, 2015

This one is in my favorite cake category. You must love coconut. The filling is gooey goodness. The frosting technique is fascinating to watch. I toast the coconut for the top. Get out your vintage cake stand, this one's worth it.

  • Chocolate sour cream cake with chocolate chips

    • Alowishs on April 02, 2016

(on page 75) Delightful! Very moist and tasty. No icing recipe included so we used this one from Epicurious: www.epicurious.com/.../sour-cream-chocolate... Used 70% orange chocolate bar - amazing taste when put in frosting. Also added a 1/4 cup of port wine I had already open. Yummo.

  • Traditional vanilla buttercream

    • Rachaelsb on January 26, 2020

Frosting is my weakness and this is my go to vanilla buttercream frosting. Does not dissapoint.

    • LaurenB on September 15, 2023

Very sweet, but a good traditional buttercream. Tastes like Magnilia's.

Publishers Text

In the heart of Greenwich Village in New York sits the Magnolia Bakery. This unassuming shop, where the smells of home-style baking weaken even the strongest will, has attracted a clientele that ranges from kids on their way home from school to celebrity glitterati. Cupcakes swirled with pastel frosting crowd the counter and cake stands display Apple Walnut Cake and Coconut Layer Cake. In The Magnolia Bakery Cookbook are the bakery's most mouth-watering recipes, from sweet breakfast treats like Dried-Cherry Crumb Buns, to Classic Iced Molasses Cookies, from decadently rich Caramel Pecan Brownies and Raspberry Marzipan Cheesecake to refreshing Lemon Ice Box Pie. Their easy-to-follow recipes and invaluable baking hints mean that even the inexperienced baker will be able to frost the perfect layer cake, turn out the flakiest pie crust and whip up the creamiest cheesecake.
