Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Potato, tomato, and celery soup

    • veronicafrance on December 26, 2011

This is a very nice, simple soup -- it would be good as a Christmas dinner starter, as ED suggests. I'd be tempted to use tinned tomatoes in winter, for better flavour and colour. Blogged here, along with a review of the book: http://www.larecettedujour.org/2011/12/elizabeth-davids-christmas-potato-tomato-and-celery-soup.php

  • The good daughter's mincemeat pudding

    • veronicafrance on December 26, 2011

This was delicious. Basically bread and butter pudding with mincemeat in it; I used some stale brioche. Don't bother with the butter, you really don't need it with the fat that's in the mincemeat. Great solution if you have mincemeat left over and are either bored with mince pies or can't be bothered to make pastry. I blogged about it here: http://www.larecettedujour.org/2011/12/three-good-things-to-do-with-mincemeat.php
