Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Roast chicken & potatoes with thyme, lemon & garlic

    • aargle on April 02, 2016

There was nothing special about this recipe to set it apart from numerous other roast chicken recipes - it was nice but there was too much liquid in the bottom of the roasting dish at the end of the cooking time. At least the chicken was cooked perfectly. Probably won't repeat.

There are SO many things about this recipe that simply make no sense. Dry the bird, only to pour lemon juice on it seconds later? Butter the back of the bird, but not the breasts? Surround bird with potatoes, only to have to dig them up seconds later to place the thyme underneath them? Where do the other 2x bay leaves end up? Despite all this, you do end up with tender meat & delicious lemony spuds.

  • Vanilla cake

    • aargle on July 21, 2015

This is a beautifully simple plain cake that was very easy to throw together. High quality vanilla is essential. I used a 23cm round tin which was perfect. A definite repeat.

  • Milk tart

    • e_ballad on September 20, 2016

On my search for an amazing melktert recipe. This was a pretty fantastic starting point.

  • Roasted lamb & rice-shaped pasta (Youvetsi)

    • e_ballad on June 04, 2017

Not the tastiest youvetsi that we've made, though probably this is a more authentic dish to the other recipes that I did prefer.

  • Beetroot with yoghurt & pistachios

    • e_ballad on July 18, 2017

Fine but unexciting. I think our personal preference is for more piquancy against the sweetness of the beetroots.

    • Daniela164 on April 08, 2023

so simple, but so delicious. The pistachios add a tasty crunch. Perfect!

  • Beetroot gnocchi

    • e_ballad on February 11, 2017

Wow. This was vile. I've made plenty of gnocchi over the years, but only now can I work out how some people think it's like eating plasticine (shout out to my Dad!). Astonishingly bad.

  • Stewed green beans in tomato sauce

    • lou_weez on September 13, 2021

I do love a slow cooked bean. I couldn't find flat beans so used round beans which took a lot longer to cook to the desired consistency (over an hour). I wouldn't add cinnamon next time - just a personal preference.

  • Stuffed vegetables

    • Tiffshaw on November 04, 2022

This is a great one pot recipe. I tend to just stuff capsicums rather than all the other vegetables.
