I made the Deetjen's dip - basically smoked turkey and avocado sandwiches served alongside Hollandaise. It's a treat, and easy to throw together, but so rich that I won't be serving it very often.

The first recipe of the book is for mushroom quesadillas, simple and tasty. I made mine with homemade flour tortillas rather than corn, but I think corn would pair nicely with the mushrooms.

The German potatoes topped with cheese are delicious. Because you bake the potatoes in advance (and can also sautee the onions in advance), this makes a great weeknight meal served alongside sausage and sauerkraut or a fresh salad.

I made the zucchini and feta cakes with yogurt sauce. It's a great recipe, easy and flavorful. The mixture was surprisingly dry, but that probably helped prevent the cakes from falling apart, as they were very solid. I used a mix or sour cream and yogurt for the sauce, and had to leave out the herbs since I didn't have any on hand, but it was a great accompaniment to the cakes. Even my five-year-old gobbled them up.
