Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Beef and onion flatbreads

This is a recipe I would never have found until I started indexing. The author said her children loved them, so it was worth trying. You make a dough from a finely chopped onion and equal quantities of beef mince and wholemeal flour, roll out thinly into circles, and shallow fry. My kids loved them from the second mouthful.

Publishers Text

Josceline Dimbleby began writing her series of cookbooks exclusively for Sainsbury's in 1978. Since then she has built up a large and devoted following through her brilliantly original and delicious recipes. Now, for the first time [1984], over 300 of the best recipes from her Sainsbury's Cookbooks are collected in a handsome presentation volume, illustrated throughout with mouth-watering colour photographs and delightful drawings. This collection of recipes represents a little of everything from nursery style favourites to the daringly exotic.

The recipes in this collection were first published in the following Sainsbury Cookbooks: Cooking for Christmas (1978), Family Meat and Fish Cookery (1979), Cooking with Herbs and Spices (1979), Curries and Oriental Cookery (1980), Salads for all Seasons (1981), Marvellous Meals with Mince (1982), Festive Food and Party Pieces (1982), and Sweet Dreams (1983).
