Notes about this book

  • IvyManning on April 20, 2018

This book is decent, but it includes recipes that call for you to cook using the Low setting on the Slow Cook function, which for the record is not recommended by the manufacturer. The temperatures on Low are too low to cook food safely, according to the people at Instant Pot.

Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Smoky potato and kale soup

    • Laurendmck on November 20, 2018

This was very tasty! The only thing is the soup never reached simmer on the high setting of saute. Finally I simply put the potatoes and kale in, as directed, but set the IP for manual, 3 minutes, and it turned out great. It's a pressure cooker, after all. I don't think saute is useful for six cups of liquid. It seems that after you cook the onions and garlic you could just cook the rest all at once with the pressure cooker function. Forget cooking the potatoes separately. That's what I would do next time. The chipotle in adobo is a great touch, don't skip it.

  • Meat and potatoes beef stew

    • Zosia on May 09, 2019

This is a good, basic recipe upon which to build. The meat was tender and the sauce was tasty with the herbs really coming through. I prefer stews with a larger variety of vegetables so I'll have to play with this one a little if I make it again.

  • Spicy pork shoulder in salsa

    • Zosia on September 16, 2018

The timing worked perfectly, producing moist, tender, sliceable meat. The sauce is only as good as the salsa you use; mine needed quite a bit of extra flavouring at the end even after I reduced it.

  • Quick white bean and turkey chili

    • Zosia on July 24, 2020

Tasty, especially with all of the typical chili toppings. I did replace half the chile powder with a mix of ancho and chipotle chile powders as the blend I have is quite mild, and I added cumin before I realized it wasn't called for in this recipe, but was from another I had looked at. It was a hit served over baked potatoes.

  • Cilantro-lime white rice

    • Zosia on October 30, 2018

A delicious accompaniment to a "Thai" pork dish. I used basmati rice and chicken stock as my liquid.

  • Brown rice with sesame oil

    • Zosia on September 18, 2018

This recipe's ratio of rice to liquid and cook time produced a perfectly cooked pot of rice. I used brown basmati rice, chicken stock in place of water and omitted the sesame oil.

  • Sun-dried tomato and Parmesan polenta

    • patioweather on September 05, 2022

The technique was great but I needed to add salt and pepper.

  • Shredded chicken tacos with tomato and lime

    • cucinahalcon on November 20, 2018

So delicious. The mix of thighs and breasts is really good.

  • Tomato and white bean soup

    • cucinahalcon on November 20, 2018

A bit too acidic and the beans didn't cook according to the time in the recipe. I ended up blending it all with an immersion blender for a creamy tomato soup.

  • Corn on the cob with gochujang butter

    • Melissa_427 on September 08, 2022

So, so good! I was worried it would be too spicy but it was simply perfect! I tend to only have unsalted butter on hand so a sprinkle of salt was an absolute necessity!

  • Mashed cauliflower with garlic and cream cheese

    • pastaplease on March 11, 2021

      Will make again (and again).

Reviews about this book

  • Food in Jars

Happily, Daniel Shumski...has leaped into the void that the IP manufacturers left and has written a book that I believe will become the defacto user’s guide to this valuable little appliance.
