Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Chow-chow relish

    • clkandel on October 20, 2020

This is our go-to hot dog relish. Also tastes great with roasted pork loin.

  • Sweet pickle relish

    • heatherlee on January 18, 2019

Delicious sweet relish. Quite a bit of prep work to chop the ingredients. I opted to water bath can this in 4 oz jars.

  • Hot peppers

    • clkandel on August 14, 2021

This is my go to recipe for pickled jalapenos. I omit the garlic.

  • Green tomato mincemeat

    • jenmacgregor18 on October 05, 2015

Made 10 pints this weekend. We usually omit the suet or oil and then just a regular hot bath processing, instead of the pressure canner. Makes the best pie, half apples & half green tomato mincemeat. The family has to have it for the fall & winter holidays. Delicious and a wonderful use for all those green tomatoes!

  • Beans-Boston baked

    • shelbstirr on December 30, 2025

Really delicious, rich and full flavored. Could cut back on the salt a bit.

  • Glazed carrots

    • sarahawker on October 30, 2023

Simple reliable recipe that the whole family loves.

  • Maple-walnut syrup

    • heatherlee on January 18, 2019

Delicious topping for desserts! Very easy to prepare and process in the water bath canner. I opted to toast the walnuts. It is important to not overcook this to candy stage. Also work quickly to fill the jars.

  • Praline syrup

    • heatherlee on January 18, 2019

Delicious topping for ice creams and baked goods. Simple to prepare and water bath can.

  • Spiced honey

    • heatherlee on January 18, 2019

This was very simple to prep and process in the water bath canner. The lightly spiced honey was great for adding to hot tea. I will definitely want to have this on hand every winter.

  • Spicy pickled beets

    • abrownb1 on July 03, 2021

These are super tasty. Reduced the sugar slightly and may reduce a little more next time as I prefer something a little less sweet. Leftover brine poured over sliced onions makes a great fridge pickle for salads and sandwiches. Btw these would be better named spiced rather than spicy since they're not hot at all.

  • Carrots (dehydrated)

    • sarahawker on October 30, 2023

Bounty of carrots and this way of preservation certainly took them down to about 1/8th size. Have not used in recipe yet.
